I thought that this episode was okay. I was hoping for Ash to talk about his experiences during his preparation for his third Grand Trial once he got back to the Pokemon School, but they jumped right into a firework celebration with an Ultra Beast. It was strange how no one seemed to wonder what that creature was during the fireworks, but they needed to setup the two different Ultra Beasts appearing and spend a bit of time going through the same transformation sequences.

Having to deal with two Ultra Beasts at the same time was a different challenge, but I also feel like they could have used both Blacephaleon and Xurkitree for two different episodes instead. It wouldn't have expected them to develop a kind of rivalry based on their abilities to create fireworks either. That kind of behavior made sense for Blacephaleon, but it seemed a bit of a stretch for Xurkitree. Despite the situation being rather important, Ash and his friends stood around for at least a couple of hours based on how dark it got near the end of the episode. That had to wait until they got more information on Xurkitree from Lusamine and their plain relied on creating their own firework, but it just seemed like they took their sweet time trying to handle these two potentially dangerous Ultra Beasts.

At least there was a bit more teamwork with their firework and they got to use their Ride Pokemon too. They were able to capture the Ultra Beasts and safely release them back to their world, but apparently their firework was popular enough for people to demand that they do it again. Lana thinking that they could charge admission for it was a funny note to end the episode on. Overall, it was an okay episode.
