The long awaited dub for this show has come out and it's a solid dub. 2021 has been pretty packed with mecha and in theory, this should be the lighthearted palette cleanser to contrast with the tragedy of 86, but this one is actually also pretty angsty. Really, no surprise when it's predecessor was all about Akane's depression. This time around, it's more of an ensemble show with a team of robot pilots all with their own psychological issues. It almost feels like a weird mix of CW drama angst with highly childish silliness like robots turning into dinosaurs that seem to be an oil/water mix on paper, but somehow the bizarre contrasting elements seem to work better than they should. The action scenes seem even campier than Gridman, yet the character drama is also dialed up too. This series feels like the predecessor series dialed way up. It's an interesting watch and when the dub is finished, I can finally comment on how it all adds up. SSSS.Gridman was a very fun series and I expect this to meet the same expectations.

Wow. Got to episode 3 of the dub and they already
went to space
. It took much longer for Gurren Lagann to do that. This is the most over the top mecha since then. Okay, it's kinda obvious that Trigger is the successor to Gainax as the king of mecha anime (okay Sunrise also shares the title because of Gundam).

Just me or this seems like a mech series mixed with a show like Twin Peaks.

I thought that Gridman and Dynazenon resemble Buffy or Veronica Mars meets Super Sentai more than Twin Peaks as they have heavy teen drama elements and a focus on the bonds of friendship. Twin Peaks is more of a murder mystery with quirky townsfolk in a small Washington town. Buffy also has the monster of the week elements similar to the Gridman shows.

Well the whole mystery of how Yumie's sister died is where I got the Twin Peaks thought.

There is a mystery, but not really much supernatural horror and the two shows do seem very different. JoJo part 4 is probably closest to anime Twin Peaks.

Looks like they're really bringing together the Gridman/Dynazenon core casts :).

It'll be nice to see how everyone has grown, especially the Gridman cast...and we might get to finally meet the real Yuta Hibiki .
Good thing I saw that article cuz... I forgot to watch Dynazenon so I'm rectifying that. First episode was a good grabber, how the core cast all meets, the mecha turtle kaiju that changes gravity, Dynazenon and its transformation.

8/26: Seems so, making Yomogi the newb frozen player in ep 2 was funny but the finishing attacks were pretty cool. Even had a sorta old school kaiju theme remix in the score.

EDIT: Ah. A traitor because there was a woman involved. That old chestnut.

lol, knew Hime was gonna get sick.

Also, why do the Kaiji Eugenicists dress like they're in a high school band? So 5000 years ago... so they're alien humanoids?

8/29: Whoa, is that an older version of Anti from the Gridman anime?! And the Second... oh, Anosillus the 2nd who was with him at the end of Gridman. Very cool surprise to have them crossover. The Eugenicists talked about a barrier that got weakened that Kaiju were coming through. Maybe Anti crossed over, too? Ah, so this could be another video game world like the Gridman anime...

Ulp, looks like that thing that Chise found was a kaiju slowly taking form. Goldburn, after a band. Heh.

Episode 9: Yomogi, what a rube. Comfort, Hime! Don't just run off to fight the Kaiju! Dah.

Was wondering when Hime's friend was going to conclude she and Yomogi were secretly dating, lol.

Starting to wonder if Kano's death was the event that weakened the barrier. All the emotions definitely could have been the trigger. "Most people would think that." How, freakin' cruel.

Episode 11: Oh, that's why Sizumu didn't vanish, he had a kaiju all along.

Finale: It was interesting that the Eugenicists tried changing but ultimately they were stuck in the past figuratively and even in that combined kaiju, they couldn't defeat the Dynazenon team because they embraced their future and potential.

Wonder if Dynazenon "waking" fully healed in that next computer world meant Gauma also is still alive or did he really die? But I think the real point is he'll live on in those 4 no matter what his ultimate fate is. And damn straight Koyomi would get a job from his friend's husband, after he saved his life and all. And it was fulfilling to see Yomogi and Yume hold hands finally then sorta further stressed their bond by hoping their scars never fully heal. Chise, idk, still ended a bit too enigmatically. Hope that was a press on tattoo. Overall, I liked that this show ended up becoming more of a character driven series and lot different than Gridman.

I admit my takeaway from the ending was that Gauma's soul inhabited Dynazenon now.

I definitely think one place where Dynazenon improved from Gridman was in developing it's main cast and giving them satisfactory character arcs. And upping the thighs content with Mujina :p.

8/29:Ooh. That's makes sense, kinda parallels Anti waking up to Second at the end of Gridman and them carrying over to Dynazenon, and likely with Dyna and Gauma in the 2023 movie along with the rest of the returning cast. On the ending, I thought they were going to pull another reveal that Chise was a player and they were gonna have her wake up in the real world but I guess they didn't want to repeat that. I guess that joke that no one believed they were cousins was just that, a joke and maybe a red herring that I took hookline and sinker.

And upping the thighs content with Mujina :p.
I wasn't gonna say but yeah, weird outfits for that team overall though.

11/20: Gridman Universe visuals, cast, and trailer. Comes out in Japan on March 24.

2/10/23: Masayoshi Ōishi's theme song "uni-verse" has been revealed. Daiki Hamano is joining the cast as Rex and more returning cast revealed. Poster art revealed.

10/22/24: The movie will be on Crunchyroll this Thursday. The compilation movie, on December 12.

10/30: Gridman Universe was a a crazy, fun conclusion to the shows. A very funky multiverse story that makes Gurren Lagann look like chopped liver, lol. The big bad was nuts. Basically, from all the overused kaiju, it was created from negative human emotions and it tried to merge and destroy the universes to create ultimate chaos. Yeah, makes perfect sense. ;) It was hilarious when Alexis showed up in the Junk store and claimed to be Rikka's dad. And heh heh, the JHS instantly knew Alexis probably survived and they were gonna find and seal him again. But to that effect, as long as Gridman keeps fighting more kaiju, then Mad Origin would theoritcally be reborn at some point...

A lot of proper follow-ups and goodbyes. So cute the Hokkaido crabs Gauma/Rex bought was for Yomogi's mom then in the post-credits scene, "Not bad." lmao. The genuine surprise was he was briefly reunited with the princess. It was a joy seeing Akane again, even with her own Sailor Moon-esque transformation, and seems to be doing better in the real world. Trigger really killed it with the animation and the mecha and kaiju. lol, awkward love. Perfect ending for Yuta and Rikka. :D

This might sound like a controversial take but meh whatever.

Despite my disagreements with a lot of business decisions from Cartoon Network, I have nothing against the network personally. I have more of a problem with the fan base sometimes. They’re more annoying than Nickelodeon haters.

Yes, this terrifying homunculus that resembles Pearl from Steven Universe is an actual, officially licensed thing that was actually made. It's not a bootleg!

And to all those people out there who said "I'm gonna see X thing, to see how bad it sucks", if you know it going to suck, then why would you go see it?

All you're doing is giving the studios money by continuing making more crappy stuff. It's not a good thing, folks. It's not.
I had a Happy Halloween because I spent it watching episodes of my favorite Disney show

"The Ghost and Molly McGee"!

2 hours before Halloween was over in Europe, I reverted the branding to normal.
