Dub took the Thanksgiving holiday off, but this week was a double dose and it was a rollicking start to the first real actual arc. Best part was easily Loid's ridiculous tourist getup and Anya's reaction. Action scenes were brief but Wit and Cloverworks delivered a nice looking simple fight. This is a much more down to earth shonen title with not as much in the way of superpowers, so fights are much more down to earth than the giant city destroying spectacles of rival shonen series Jujutsu Kaisen. There was some good drama on Yor's internal conflict between her job and her new family. To be honest, I think SpyXFamily has spanked Jujutsu Kaisen in terms of better shonen series for being a far more creative series than the generic Bleach ripoff Jujutsu Kaisen is (although the fight scenes in that show are amazing, I will concede). The adorable family sitcom hijinks and action are a winning formula and a breath of fresh air in a world of copycat battle shonen. The main cast is also way more lovable than most of the blank slates of Jujutsu Kaisen. Really, Chainsaw Man might be the only real rival to SpyXFamily in terms of best Shonen Jump anime of the 2020s with its impressive cinematic animation.

After the last action-packed episodes, we get a nice cool down episode. Also, I chuckled at Anya's "lying takes too much work" comment.

The dub is on episode 33, and it featured an action scene that was as elaborate as most traditional by the book battle shonen. The Connery/Moore era James Bond influences become most obvious with all the gimmick henchmen. Somehow the James Bond/Full House combination works when those two genres in theory would clash a great deal.

Anya cheering on Becky to marry Loid so she can get some world-class chiefs was so funny. Yor taking Becky under her wing for training was cute too. Fiona returning and getting that ending with her giddily getting a gift from Loid was great.

What a nice way to end the season focusing on Bond. A heartwarming episode. Looking forward to next season and I guess the movie as well.

From the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"The “Spy X Family” Movie Has Grossed Over Six Billion Yen In Japan"

spy-x-family-movie-1.webp

"The television anime Spy X Family has been a smash hit and a truly unique show. Basically put a romantic comedy, a spy comedy, and a domestic comedy sitcom into a blender and add anime action and you get the winning formula that is Spy X Family. It has been a major hit on the small screen, but it has recently come to the big screen in Japan. This film is an anime original story rather than an adaptation of the original manga entitled Spy X Family Code White. According a recent Tweet, the film has grossed over six billion yen in Japan.

For those wondering what that translates to in American dollars, that is roughly forty million USD. The budget for this movie has yet to be publicly released, but if we assume it is comparable to the Demon Slayer movie’s budget of 15.7 million USD, then it easily made a profit before it even got its worldwide export. As for non-Japanese fans, there is still a little bit of a wait until the film is finally release abroad."

The News Team's PicardMan is back with another review on the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"Review: “SpyXFamily” Season 2: The Perfect Blend of Shonen and Sitcom"

4d4f89539e4e686346568f943eb89c128ff408809dd2f65e03e72a1c59ad49c2.jpg

"SpyXFamily is a major hit because of its unique blend of shonen and sitcom. That combination of Full House family comedy, Hallmark romcom, and Shonen Jump action all rolled into one coherent, exciting, and hilarious package. The series is about a spy, Loid Forger, and an assassin, Yor Forger, who have a fake marriage and adopt telepathic girl Anya Forger in order maintain their secret missions. Nobody in the family knows each other’s secrets and hijinks ensue. Towards the end of season one, Bond the precognitive dog joined the family. Season one was a huge hit, so how does season two hold up?

The answer is: even better than season one. This season features a major multi-episode arc (half the season) set on a cruise ship featuring Yor Forger having to act as bodyguard for a young woman and her son. This arc features an intense battle scene featuring an action scene just as good as your standard “serious” battle shonen series. No, the series never loses its comedy and some of the best comedy also comes from this arc. Not going to spoil any jokes, but I will tell you to watch for hilarious Loid and Anya being Loid and Anya antics as they are on their cruise ship. Yor shines as the central character of this arc, and she is given a strong internal conflict between her duties as an assassin and her duties to her new family. The characters continue to have great chemistry and seeing this allegedly fake family bond is heartwarming in the cutest way possible."

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the defending World Series champions, are getting stronger with new roster additions.

This only serves to make them more valuable to a combined Charter/New Paramount entity in the future, which would in turn give the entity full ownership of the team's RSN.
