I hope they get the tone of the film right. I haven't paid much attention to Nu52 Shaman but it just didn't seem like my cup of tea. I was really looking forward to Billy Batson and the Power of Shazam years ago but that never materialized. This could be so much fun if it's handled right.

All they have to do is take influence from Jeff Smith's update of Monster Society of Evil or Kunkel and Baltazar's Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! and they'd have a perfect Captain Marvel for the movies. It doesn't need to be bleak or miserable or have deaths caused by the hero like the sad sacks working on anything doing with the movie version of Superman. Just have a light, fun superhero movie kids can see with their parents and everyone can enjoy.

Agreed. A kid fantasy PG film would be great and The Rock would be an awesome villain for that.

I hope we get some more casting soon. The Rock as Black Adam has been a thing for years, so it' be nice to attach a name and face to the Big Red Cheese himself :).

There really wasn't any doubt in my mind that it would be, but now I'm just waiting for them to finally cast the actual stars of the film .

I didn't know this was a question but good to get an overall update on it. Though a little odd they only mention focusing on Black Adam.
Well, he has been the only confirmed aspect of this adaption for years and is played by The Rock, so I'm not surprised frankly .

8/15: Zack Snyder will have nothing to do with Shazam:

http://www.newsarama.com/30636-shazam-movie-set-in-dc-cinematic-universe-zack-snyder-not-involved.html

If only he has nothing to do with DCEU the better. At least he won't be hoodwinking Shazam at that a good thing.

8/19: Rumor:Sam Raimi may be up for Shazam:

http://www.screengeek.net/2016/08/18/rumor-sam-raimi-could-direct-shazam/

Sam Raimi filmmaking skill set put Zack Snyder who has no filmmaking skills to shame, This is a big upgrade that DCEU needs.

...That would probably be the most anti-climactic casting reveal for a major role in a really long time, especially when we haven't heard anything about them looking for Shazam and the movie is still down the pipeline .

Suffice it to say, I had no idea who this guy was two seconds ago....

the point of no return
Well, Captain Marvel just got around to getting cast. We know they use the actors in multiple films including Infinity War, but it is about that time. Think about filming will begin in 2018, so it is now only 3 months away from 2017.

Well, it's good to know some progress is being made on this movie. I'm still waiting for them to actually cast the lead character .

Hmm. I can see why they'd choose him; he's previously worked with The Rock twice, and the second of those (San Andreas) was one of the biggest box office surprises of 2015.

OTOH, he's never directed a film with a positive RT score, which leaves me a bit apprehensive...

Well, at this point, what do they have to lose? As everything else has been critically underwhelming.
