*The previous show tried to be a version of TMNT that was both true to previous versions, and darker and edgier at the same time (original comics or not), which, IMHO, was exactly the show's problem.
I thought the show's problem (well the biggest problem) was the writers' having trouble keeping their plots and stories together. Which lead to a lot of plots unfinished(Mutagen Man/April'sMom) and some plots rushed into being finished (Kraang Prime's death).

I always saw the 2012 show's biggest problem is making unforced errors that no other show would ever be dumb enough to make. I have seen them make the occasional good episode. Which makes the things they get so completely wrong absolutely puzzling to me. I would be less angry at the series if it were always crap. Since it isn't, and just collapsed under the weight of nonstop crap after five seasons, I don't forgive it.
I had no idea Raph was more the more popular one of the quad pack.
Just a theory, but that probably has to do with the 87 series. Raph was the scene-stealer there, and like it or not, that was the most visible and recognizable Turtles project of all time. It makes sense people who grew up with it would create a show around the best character of that version.

Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "Motion Comic: Part 1"

Glad we got this ahead of time. It gives us a taste of the tone of the series. I probably will not like it. It screams "EXTREEEEEME!!!" to me, and will probably wind up a visual eyesore.

Ever notice how comics tend to overexplain everything? That's one of the funniest things about them.

Trouble ahead. **.

Rise of the TMNT will have a big presence as SDCC, including a panel and VR experience, and Nick's booth will have a towering New York City cityscape, featuring the bright lights, energy and iconic billboards of Times Square; a hidden Turtles lair, housing a gif opportunity. :)

In other words, NICK is that confident that this show will be the supposed (but not really in the long run, and please don't ask for an explanation) "smash" hit the previous series was...

As for the opening, all I can say is that after seeing them in action, I don't like those character designs at all. Now, I'm careful to avoid judging a book by its cover, but I just have this feeling that all four turtles (possibly among other characters) will be one (if not non)-dimensional character stereotypes, which even the turtles in the 1987 series weren't; I mean not really (I say that because that's exactly what they could have been if Fred Wold Films really wanted to make them that way). That would be the exact opposite of the Turtles in the 2012 series, which tries too hard to make them unique (Leo unsure of his qualities as a leader [hence the not-Filmation version of not-Star Trek running gag], Mike being the wiseguy who tries to name every villain they fight; not sure about Don [other than being a possible casting gag*]; Raph? Well, there's not much more to him than being an impatient hothead who thinks he should be the leader), and "flawed" (you know, for the viewers who want more "realism" in animated shows).

OTOH, this was made when Cyma Zaghami was still "running the show" as some people might say. Either way, the bottom line (so far) is, this show is not doing itself any favors. They say first impressions aren't always correct, bit OTOH, neither are second impressions. To be completely blunt, either this show will be the genuine article, and all the characters will have actual personalities, and the show as whole won't try to manipulate the viewers (like the previous 2012 show did), or it will show just what NICK (or at least Cyma Zarghami) really thinks of the viewers (i.e., not matter how old they are). We'll find out when the show premieres in September (or so).

*For those who may not know, Don is voiced by Rob Paulsen...who played Raph in the 1987 series.

I wonder if they'll change the animation once Shredder turns up ?

I also saw it suggested that they might change Leo's description in the opening once he becomes leader...

He better not; not after all that talk from NICK about Raph being the leader in this version. As I said before, you can't just say one thing, then say another. After all, what's to say they wouldn't change their minds again?...

Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "Motion Comic, Part 2"

I actually liked this better than the first part. The voice actors speak unusually slow, mostly to make it easier for the words in the motion comic to keep up, but this was much better than part 1. ***1/2.

The opening credits looked really good, actually. It has me more interested, that's for sure. Looking forward to seeing more!

I just saw the opening and it was surprisingly good. The bits of the song already sounded nice, but I really like the techno remake of the 2012 opening. It has a good beat and fits nicely with the animation style. It also gives a bit of an insight into the turtles' personalities. Leo could be more comical than he has been in previous series. It was already weird to see him not be the leader, but his description makes him sound more like Mikey. Based on the motion comic, I could see them eventually leading into Leo becoming the leader, especially if Raph is just the self-appointed leader for being the oldest and strongest.

While I'm still not sure about some of the designs, I think most of the voices work pretty well based on that motion comic. The only one that I don't like is Raph. That might be because of how deep and gruff it is, but everyone else sounds fine. The humor might not be my cup of tea based on this motion comic, but the action might flow nicely in the series.

I'm still not sure if I'll watch the series, but I might give it a chance. I didn't have a negative experience with the 2012 series. I did lose interest around season three, but a good part of that was due to not having a way to watch the series On Demand or on Nick's website since they don't have Comcast listed among their accepted cable providers. I haven't watched of anything from Nickelodeon for awhile anyway.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but I've already spoken my peace. Short version: Leo should have been the leader in the first place, but in this version, it's Raph, and that's the way it should be, period (i.e., no "backsies").

The opening was pretty awesome, but I hope the show itself will be. I’m not worried about proper interpretations just so long as the writing’s good.
