If I’m not mistaken this guy who when he oversaw the PS1 and Saturn he didn’t want 2D games released in North America.
IIRC, he later came to regret the decision to not have 2D or RPG games on the Saturn (not so sure about the PS1, since I recall him only being involved with that early on).

I don't think it's any exaggeration to say that under Bernie's leadership early on, the Playstation was a mega success and the video game landscape today might look a lot different had it not succeeded right out of the gate. That's not to say that he personally deserves all the credit for it, but he was certainly instrumental.
