Once Upon A Snowman
This is basically Frozen 1/2, i.e. "Olaf was actually there the entire time!"
Honestly? It was WAY better than The Lion King 1 1/2. Probably because 7 minutes is actually the proper length for this type of trivial story. I actually really, really liked it. How much? I thought it was better than Frozen Fever, Olaf's Frozen Adventure, and yes, Frozen II.
Did any other Frozen fans pick up on the Norwegian anagram before now? Because we probably should have.
I love that Olaf gives up his meat nose to save the life of the wolf who fell off the cliff in the movie. Making that wolf sympathetic and misguided was an absolutely wonderful thing to do in hindsight.
Jonathan Groff voices Kristoff? I never realized Kristoff was King George from Hamilton. I would never described Groff's performance of Kristoff as "understated" before now. But compared to King George, he totally is. I actually have a hard time believing it's the same guy. The accent probably also confused the issue.
This did something I've only seen one other musical do, (although it's been a while since I saw the Lion King inbetweenquel), but it showed characters from outside of the perspective of the showstopping musical number. Buffy The Vampire Slayer poked at this by having background characters in the musical episode "Once More With Feeling" have musical numbers we weren't privy to their entirety, and it's a very funny idea to make the songs a real part of the Narrative instead of a mere flourish. Buffy had a built in excuse for doing that. I especially like that this show doing it remains unexplained and a bit of a mystery. It's fun stuff.
Probably the best Frozen thing I've seen since the original movie. *****.
