Nightcrawler/Rogue/Mystique relationship - handled well?

Both X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men: Evolution tackled the Mystique/Rogue/Nightcrawler relationship. Which series do you think handled it better and what aspects? I remember it being a complicated thing in the comics - especially now with the revelation of Nightcrawler's father - so I think both of these shows did a good job. Compare and discuss!
