Hmm, Deku narrating from a flash forward probably.

Random boy watching or future hero? Just goes to show, All Might achieved his goal of being a symbol all those decades ago and even in the present he is such an inspirational figure that this boy, who doesn’t even know who he is, is intrigued by him and is going to keep watching.

Wow, a mech suit that emulates Class A's quirks. All Might thought that through. Made by Melissa Shield from the Two Heroes movie, cool! Love seeing the movies incorporated into the series.

Finally a weakness. Taking big hits, Rewind speeds up. And now he's glowing... is that the first Quirk of all time they showed in the series premiere with the baby?!

Ooh!!! Stain has arrived and froze AFO in his tracks. :D

Aoyama got a win, well he and Hagakure. So that's what she looks like... Oop, she naked.

All Might's mom!

Of course he freakin' prepared for Stain then takes his Quirk. Sigh.

Building up to the big tragedy of this era... and Bakugo's back. :D

I know we joke about Bakugo being the Vegeta of the show but he truly felt like the Saiyan prince in this episode. Watching this reminded me when Vegeta fought second form Cell from back then.

"That's my line, feeble old man!" :D :D :D

Bakugo really got to shine, literally and figuratively! It's about time he gives the big bad a run for his money. His sweat was the key all along. Didn't see that coming. And Edgeshot, barely survived. Only thing that might be a concern, what burns brightest before if goes out - a candle. How long can Bakugo keep this up and AFO regains his composure and either maims/kills/takes his quirk?

Looks like things are wrapping up at the various battles but everyone's pretty much maxed out. Who's gonna join Bakugo and Midoriya at this point...

Oh, so Midoriya and Shigaraki are actually going to fight after the 3 episode stare down? :p Eh... Midoriya you had time to think of how you're gonna fight Shigaraki, right? You shouldn't be fretting about having to use 2nd Gear so soon.

Wow, seems wild after all this time - an episode of AFO's backstory from his POV? What other revelations and horrible reveals could there be left...

"My Hero Academia: “Toshinori Yagi Rising/Origin” Episode 160 Recap (Final Season Premiere)"

My-Hero-Academia-Episode-160-closeup.webp

"It’s finally here. The dub for the first episode of the final season of one of the most beloved anime of all time has arrived and it continues the the big huge brawl against Shigaraki from last season. Last season ended with the reveal of All Might’s Iron Man-esque armor. The first ten minutes of this episode repeat the beginning of the battle from last season, but the second half contains new material of the fight between armored All Might and All for One and also contains a brief but memorable showcase for two characters who have usually been stuck in the background. Finally, there is a shocking cameo that got fans talking. So without further ado, let’s recap the episode.

As stated before, the episode begins with a symbolic scene of cherry blossoms falling from trees. Midoriya narrates that the final battle was a dark time when it seemed like the villains had the upper hand and were ready to uproot society. We cut to the scene from the finale of last season where All Might shows up to fight All for One in his new special armor, which we learn was developed by Melissa Shields from the United States. This character debuted in the first My Hero Academia movie and a lot of fans consider this a cool cameo. He kicks All for One in the face over and over in a satisfying scene. The All Might armor contains simulations of the powers his original Quirk One for All had, such as a mechanical Black Whip. He follows up on his kicks with a Black Whip and it seems like All Might has the fight in the bag. That is where we left off last season but now we continue on and learn that the fight won’t be that simple."

Good to know that All For One has been pure evil from birth so it makes Bakugo defeating him all that much sweeter. And he won by the skin of his teeth, literally. Now, the last opponent is Shigaraki, so we'll see how the heroes take him down.

Geez, AFO and his brother Yoichi were born from a homeless woman and never knew her because she died in a rainstorm. But eh... seems like he was already evil in the womb. Was born a taker. When it comes down to it, AFO is just an attention whore.

Humans thought quirks a disease at first. That line about orphans being carriers. Wow, they used to think quirks were like STDs passed on by prostitutes' kids?! Just.. wow.

Are they implying the glowing baby was NOT the first born with a Quirk after fall? That it was their mother maybe? Wow. That would really rock hero society.

Damn, that's how Yoichi was killed. Saved by Kudo who would became the next holder of One For All. Only to be ripped apart. Man.

I never thought about it before, but wonder who originally had the what do you call it 'power storing' quick who AFO stole it from that merged with Yoichi's bestowal quirk to become One For All. Huhn.

Brutal as hell. Massacred Kudo's family tree just out of fear of the quirk.

AFO backed into a corner is a sight. Reminds of The Thing/John Carpenter body horror.

"One Quirk is all you need!" What a statement. :)

"This is our story!" Even better.

Seems that was it, AFO took one too many quirks and eventually at that crucial point in the final battle, his control was finally weakened. Talk about a great time for that to happen.

Bakugo had to blow up a baby AFO to win. An evil baby AFO. I saw all that but idk, how I still question if AFO is still somehow alive...

I mean, there's still Tomura left. But if there's still a part of AFO in Tomura...

"My Hero Academia: “The End of an Era: And a Beginning” Episode 161 Recap"

My-Hero-Academia-161-closeup.jpg

"This week’s new dub episode was My Hero Academia‘s equivalent of “Bane breaking Batman” with All Might receiving a similar beatdown from All for One. The dastardly villain seems invincible as he wipes the floor against the heroes. Without further ado, let’s recap just how hopeless the situation seems to be.

Our episode begins with a flashback to All Might’s happy childhood reading an Anpanman book. The episode flashes forward to the not so happy present of All Might getting thoroughly beaten. Last episode ended with Stain’s appearance and the promise that he’d turn the tide of battle, but it turns out that Stain is completely incapable of making an impact in the fight. All for One had found a way to nullify Stain’s quirk of paralyzing anybody whose blood he licks. All for One managed to get his blood type changed. I’m guessing this was something All for One’s mad scientist underling, Dr. Garaki, helped with. All for One thoroughly beats Stain and incapacitates him.

The “cavalry” failed to save All Might and All for One continued his beatdown. All for One fires a giant laser and easily incapacitates All Might. All hope seems completely lost and All for One contemplates the battle going on between Midoriya and Shigaraki. All for One considers fusing with Shigaraki to easily end the battle against Midoriya, but Shigarki refuses as he wants to fight this battle himself. One for All agrees to this and has another plan instead."

I believe it was always stated since the beginning episode that the glowing baby was the first RECORDED person with a quirk. You might want to rewind this episode and rewatch the scene because its a quick "blink and you'll miss it" line of dialogue. But basically AFO killed the glowing baby [now an adult] took their quirk and killed their 10 million followers (great piece of lore building that the glowing baby used their fame to promote peace) and AFO tells Yoichi that he learned that there were reportedly 50 babies born in India who had quirks 2 weeks prior to the glowing baby's birth.

As an aside, in regards to "That would really rock hero society" it had to of assuredly been understood or at the very least assumed by all in hero society that there was probably an untold amount of people running around with not activated quirks long before the glowing baby's birth.

BTW, AFO was using the glowing quirk in his infant form as he was trying to kill Bakugo. Great use of the shows iconography.

I absolutely loved the world building that went on in this episode. Learning about the last century and how chaotic it was as people were gaining quirk. I would absolutely watch a prequel MHA series about AFO in his prime. Murdering Kudo and anyone related to him, my god AFO was an absolute menace.

Speaks to Izuku's personality that he still believes he can save Shigaraki when even his own relative wants to give up on him. Interesting plan to take down Shigaraki, hope it works out.

I think AFO and Shigaraki still think of One For All as just another quirk to absorb. They discount how much its evolved and changed. I think I get they think they can use it to weaken the chink in Shigaraki's mind. But then this is only episode 5. I'm already bracing for either it not working and doom and gloom all is lost stuff for a couple episodes or a mental clone of AFO is waiting to be let out by their attack to take over Shigaraki's body as one final failsafe he thought of ahead of time in preparation for this final battle. Sad to think Midoriya has to make the ultimate sacrifice and become quirkless again but that sorta doesn't jive with his narrations from the start of the series (unless he's recorded historically as the greatest hero ever for stopping Shigaraki, he's just not an active hero anymore)

I love that you brought that up because it only doesn't jive if you think Horikoshi's been writing a normal shonen this whole time. Once you realize that ever since the Stain arc, this guy stopped writing your typical power fantasy, it absolutely jives with Midoriya's narration's from the start of the series. This anime hasn't been Hogwarts with capes for years. That ended the second Stain showed up. From that point on, its been a full on deconstruction of hero society. A slow horror story about what happens when "heroism" turns into a system that runs on profit and public worship. You look at Twice, Spinner, Toga, Dabi, even Nagant and Hawks. Every single one of them is a consequence of that system eating itself.

So yeah, it was never going to end with Deku becoming the next All Might. That was the bait right? Horikoshi's been building toward answering the question of "what does the true embodiment of heroism even look like" and Deku's answer isn't pretty. He's the cost. The invoice, the sum of all of Hero Society's sins. And in the end he'll be broken, scarred, but also uncorrupted. The one who redeemed what hero society was supposed to be. And you know what, I think that guarantee's you G.O.A.T status.

I would even add Bakugo to that. I'm really thinking he is going to lose his powers, too, or because of his injury, can't use his quirk anymore or it's fatal. Something like that. All Might saw the both of them when he was fading in and out fighting AFO.

Thanks for really succinctly laying that out. Definitely feels like what the show has evolved into. I just hope Horikoshi didn't back pedal since we still have a girl who can restore quirks who just pulled that off with Mirio.

"This week’s dub episode features Bakugo’s biggest heroic moment of the show, saving All Might from All for One and showing off his prowess against the villain. Without further ado, let’s recap what happens in this episode.

The episode begins with All for One doing the iconic Bane pose with All Might, inflicting a great deal of pain on the beloved hero. Blood squirts out and one can tell All Might is receiving heavy damage. We cut to various people around the world issuing their prayers during the current crisis as it seems like the the big battle could result in the literal end of the world. In the United States, meteorologists have noticed that things are not looking good in terms of weather. Again, we are reminded that All Might’s closest friends are mourning his potential death. Suddenly, Bakugo makes his dramatic entrance as we saw last episode."

There was something really healing about watching Bakugo fight All For One.
It’s probably one of the most beautifully animated moments in the entire series, and that scene between Deku and Bakugo is gonna live on in anime edits until the end of time. (Gearshift was healing Bakugo, by the way, that’s why his eyes were glowing.)

Here you have AFO, the most terrifying being in his universe. He’s insane, at the absolute peak of power, standing alone at the top and feared by everyone. He’s a monster who does unspeakable things for the sake of his goals. The only person in that world who might be more insane? Kacchan Bakugo.

And that’s what I loved most about the fight: Horikoshi let Bakugo stay himself. He didn’t sanitize him. He’s still got that fire, that edge, those villain-coded qualities that made him feel dangerous back in Season 1, but this time, he turns it all loose for good.

When AFO dismisses him and tries to fly off toward Shigaraki, Kacchan doesn’t just chase him, he hunts him. He’s laughing, maniacally, tearing through buildings, bleeding, barely in control, but absolutely free. He’s finally faster, stronger, and more alive than ever.

Then you get that moment where AFO flashes back to Kudou, the second user, and Bakugo shouts: “You idiot! That’s not my name. My name is Kacchan… Bakugo!”
Man, that’s Horikoshi coming full circle. Deku’s called him Kacchan since day one, and now he says it himself. It’s him finally acknowledging the people who loved him, the bonds that shaped him, the version of himself he used to reject.

And it’s not just that he hurt AFO, everyone hurt AFO. Endeavor. Tokoyami. They all forced him to rewind. No, what made this fight special is that Kacchan broke him.
He bullied All For One.
He triggered the demon lord’s PTSD.

He made AFO see Kudou again, made him relive that trauma of losing his brother. Bakugo made the biggest, baddest villain in the entire story feel fear. Real, human fear. And that’s what’s so poetic about it. Because AFO has always represented control, the ego, the god complex, the idea of being untouchable. And here comes this first-year kid, this loudmouth who spent his whole life chasing All Might’s shadow and he sons him.

He tells him, flat out: “You’re not the final boss. I am.”

That’s what kills me about it. Bakugo didn’t beat AFO the “Deku way.” He beat him the Kacchan way. He leaned into every rival trope, every flaw, every ounce of rage and pride that made him who he is and Horikoshi told everyone, “Hey, this works too.”

It’s such a perfect note of balance. You don’t always have to win with mercy or empathy. Sometimes you beat evil by embarrassing it. By dragging it into the dirt and making it feel small.

That’s what Bakugo did. He didn’t just defeat All For One, he humiliated him. He made him human.
And for a man like that, that was a fate worse than death.
