Goblin Slayer is the most popular streaming show in the US and Australia for Crunchyroll for Fall 2018.

Crunchyroll reveals world’s most-watched fall 2018 anime

Looks to be pretty popular in Canada, parts of Europe, and South America as well. Not surprised that JoJo seems to be the most popular one in Europe.

I hope this means we can get a second season.

It's worth noting that's been getting slammed hard by critics on ANN and fans on MAL not to mention if we consider popularity(in this case also due to MASSIVE controversy) as the main quantifier for popularity, then Despacito by Luis Fonsi is a FAAAAAR better song than ones like Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Billie Jean by Michael Jackson, Purple Rain by Prince all combined.

The Fall 2018 Anime Preview Guide - Goblin Slayer

Farris, Creamer, Becket, and Silverman all pretty much echo my thoughts.

Goblin Slayer ‒ Episodes 1-2

This review goes into more details regarding episodes 1-2.

My thoughts are the same as the above in addition to considering it a vulgar and repugnant show.

Users KatsutoSaki, ShadowMonkey, and papsoshea pretty state most of my opinions on the show.

Goblin Slayer is not a masterpiece (and it's ok)

There's nothing noteworthy about that at all.

It's no more vulgar or repugnant than Game of Thrones, one of the most celebrated shows in the history of TV.

These reviews are so far off the mark it's pretty sad.

Forum posts on MAL are not the gospel and final word on any series. Nor are reviews on ANN.

But if that's such a big deal:

Positive review on ANN for Episode 6
Goblin Slayer ‒ Episode 6

Fairly positive review on ANN for Episodes 3 and 4
Goblin Slayer ‒ Episode 4
Goblin Slayer ‒ Episode 3

See this is what I don't understand. Why is this your chosen hill to die on? A repugnant, mediocre, vile, misanthropic power fantasy that fetishises and titilates rape? And I find your GoT comparison laughably insulting that I can't tell if trolling or just...well let's not go there. Got has violence, rape, incest, and other unpleasantness, but it actually does something with all of those topics and actually fleshed out characters and stories instead of having it there for cheap pandering shock and even THEN people criticised all of that. For anyone curious, here are discussions by some users discussing the series including the damage control TheVileOne seems to go into when people criticise the show.

WARNING. EXTREME GRAHIC CONTENT REGARDING THE SERIES IS PRESENT ON THERE.

Edit: I don't really care if people enjoy this. I simply find it insulting that it's considered some kind of high mark of fantasy when it's just glorified torture porn with fetishized rape scenes. You enjoy it? Whatever, you do you. But don't insult my intelligence telling me it's high end serious mature fantasy on par with Fire and Ice, Lodoss War, or Berserk and not just a juvenile gorny power fantasy as if Uwe Boll and Mark Millar teamed up.

Its telling when ELFEN LIED or Gantz the poster children for edgey ultraviolent anime from the mid 2000s have more substance and meat than Goblin Slayer

Never seen or read Gantz or Elfen Lied so I'll use the bits from the community I hang out with. A lot of them did like Gantz, but then again it had moments of depth where everyone asked actual questions about the story and characters. That said, no one hardly defends it's later portion as anything other than a terrible rushed job and mediocre at best ending. Again, this is what I've scryed from their posts about the series. Elfen Lied they didn't talk about much since it was already way in the past by the time I joined or even by the time the threads were getting made, but nobody on there takes it seriously as a series. They watched and enjoyed it, but openly for the violence and some of the moments of thought. Goblin Slayer is purely seen as "this season's snuff anime". Some do enjoy it, but purely for the violence or the End aspect, but no one takes it seriously as anything other than my above quote.

My issue with it is that it just kind of shows that as a whole, anime just doesn't seem ready to sit at the big table. Like we'll was on and off poetically about the latest masterpieces by Makoto Shinkai, Mamoru Hosada, or films like a Silent Voice, In This Corner of Mine, Redline, and God knows what else for all the renown they get, rarely leave the Anime Ghetto and are seen by the general public. This is also leaving out stuff like GALS and Tasogare Shimanami that in spite of their very cutesy or feathery looking art styles, deal with a number of complex and difficult topics in very mature and adult ways. The former I believe is out of print both the manga and anime, but can be read on Mangadex and the latter is actually getting a manga release next May.

An argument that's lazy at best.

So does Goblin Slayer. If you truly believe Goblin Slayer fetishizes rape, I think that says a lot more about you and your tastes than it does about Goblin Slayer.

I'm not dying on any hill. All you are citing is some MAL users like that means something for the show's cultural status as art, which it doesn't.

What's lazy about it, you need substance in your argument like Goblin Slayer needs substance in it's writing.

You do know popularity doesn't equal quality right, SAO was popular too but almost everyone agrees thats it's at best mediocre.

Sort of a gross generalization. Clearly not everyone agrees.

MAL forum posts don't equal quality either, but apparently here it does.

So its okay for you to PM me on how Goblin Slayer is great because it is the most popular show using MAL but if I use MAL scores to determine the quality you brush it off.

Given the nature of this site I'll use the PG version.

[line removed by Moderator] Seriously? The attention to detail in how the rape scenes are portrayed? The fact that all of the girls are teenage? The fact that there are POV scenes? Seriously? You have to either be trolling or such a massive ignorant piece of trash as to be not just blind, but scumbag and shameless enough to play such a pathetic garbage card. Why do you even go to such lengths for this show in particular? Even your defense of Black Clover is less zealous and that's actually tolerable as a show.

Edit: I've posted the links to the discussions with the pictures in question. No I will not post any direct links to ANYTHING pertaining to the series for reasons that should already be clear.
