We're roughly a month away from this year's big San Diego Comic-Con, so I figured I might as well start this thread now. No details have surfaced yet, in regards to what Marvel might be highlighting or announcing this summer.

I presume a description for the Marvel Animation panel(s) will be released within the next couple of weeks, and this post will be updated with any necessary info, but until then, feel free to use this thread to discuss, add your hopes or predictions about what might be announced.

Hopefully we get a lot more major and concrete news this year, either about current or future projects :).

I imagine they might go into a little more about the Black Vortex arc with Guardians, as well as Black Panther's Quest, and hopefully more exclusive information about Marvel Rising ;).

- This year SDCC falls in-between 2 Spider-Man episodes - "Dead Man's Party" and "Venom Returns". I suppose they might show clips (or the full episode) with Venom, or just tease the upcoming 2-part story "Bring on the Bad Guys".

- There should be more news about Marvel Rising. Back at WonderCon, they did tease more will be shown in Summer. Maybe they'll even screen one of the prequel shorts, if they are ready. Or at least announce a tentative premiere date.

- I think Avengers: Black Panther Quest has a better chance of being included in the panel than Guardians of the Galaxy, but at the same time, they might save Avengers for NYCC (in early October - kind of lines up with their plans of premiering the new Season this Fall).

- I doubt any actual new projects will be announced. At most, maybe another LEGO Special or animated movie (but it seems unlikely considering Marvel Rising). And there's still enough stuff from the current Seasons of the shows to be promoted, so I don't see them announcing if the shows will get new Seasons, either. Maybe during the Q&A, but they might not want to give out any "spoilers" either way.

We might get some details about how they're going to handle adapting Superior, though I wouldn't be surprised if they don't mention it...

Maybe we'll finally have a trailer ;)?

They showed some footage last time, so I would imagine it'll probably be addressed, though maybe not as much until we get closer to the premier :).

I'm curious if they might try to do anything to tie-in with the Ant-Man and The Wasp movie, although if Marvel Animation is really in "hibernation," I'm not sure how likely that is .

I agree. I wonder if we'll hear that Luke Cage is renewed for a third season from the live-action side of Marvel Television at Comic Con. Hopefully, we might hear some more details on Daredevil Season 3 and the Punisher Season 2. Heck, maybe they'll release new footage from Iron Fist Season 2 or maybe even announce Blade, Moon Knight and Ghost Rider Netflix series. If the whole "ending the current shows" thing is true, then It took about 6-7 years that went nowhere and it contradicted itself with all the retcons and rebooting characters to match those from the MCU. They should have known a long time ago that things that work on movies cannot work on TV shows or at the other side.
Remember, this is the Marvel Animation forum and we're speculating about the Marvel Animation panel. I don't know of any rumors about the Netflix shows ending, but regardless there's another thread where you can discuss them.

June 25th:
Still no official word on the Marvel Animation panel this year, but here are some sort of related news (again, no official dates yet).

- More news about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse might be featured in one of Sony's panels.

- Jamie Chung mentioned she'll be on the Disney Animation panel for Big Hero 6: The Series. I know that's more Disney than Marvel nowadays but since the Talkbacks are featured on this board I thought it was worth mentioning here.

June 28th:
They announced the Animation panels today.

Cool that they're giving Marvel Rising it's own exclusive panel. Seems to emphasize it as being a big deal for Marvel, and hopefully we'll get a lot more information out of this compared to the last Marvel Animation panel :).

It seems like they'll be showing the shorts, or at least brief glimpses of them, and I wouldn't be surprised if the other "surprises" are premiere dates for the shorts and movies ;).
SUNDAY, JULY 22ND
This description is pretty vague, which could mean that either the panel will have a lot of surprises or have as little new information as the last Marvel Animation panel .

"You’ll also have a chance to meet the stars of your favorite Marvel Animation series." I wonder who that will include? Usually when it comes to VA's they only seem to be able to consistently get the Guardians cast, although Robbie Daymond did turn up once...

I see Marvel only listed 2 signing events for their animated projects.

THURSDAY, JULY 19
Marvel Rising– Signing Event
5:00 PM at the Marvel Booth (#2329)
SUNDAY, JULY 23
Marvel’s Animation – Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest – Signing Event
3:00 PM at the Marvel Booth (#2329)

So it looks like Avengers might be the focus of their Animation panel. Though I imagine Spider-Man will be featured as well.

EDIT: Mairghread Scott confirmed she'll be at the Marvel Rising panel.

Hmm...I'm guessing that means it's likely they'll have James C. Mathis III and possibly Daisy Lightfoot at the panel and at the signing event :).

There will be another 25th Anniversary panel for X-Men: TAS on Sunday July 22nd between 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM. There was another one earlier this year at WonderCon.
Series showrunner Eric Lewald (author of Previously on X-Men: The Making of an Animated Series), series producer/director Larry Houston (SDCC special guest), and series writers Julia Lewald and Len Uhley participate in a spirited discussion with behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the #1 hit.

Coverage of the Into the Spider-Verse panel:

The first question from moderator Jessica Chobot is about why Miles Morales is so important to the film.

"We love Miles Morales," Lord said. "When Sony came to us and said we want to do an animated Spider-Man movie, 'We said we'll do it but it has to be Miles.' And then we got carried away in a groove from there. He's just an inspiring character. The whole idea is ho to we tell this story in a refreshing way...How to we put a good spin on it and Miles is a good start."

Why was Shameik the perfect Miles?

We love him ever since we saw him for the first time in Dope. We've known him for a while from different auditions and things," Miller said. "He's got a really unique, positive take on life. This is his first Comic Con, the first time he's been here, and from the beginning we're like this guy is the guy and we were right."

Why does Moore like Miles Morales so much.

"He's a black Spider-Man, black and Mexican. I think that that's very powerful and iconic. I was thankful for the opportunity. The fact that it looks this beautiful...was a pleasant surprise. The fact that I was able to have the opportunity to audition, book, and become the original Miles Morales it was like, 'Oh my god, this is amazing!'"

Growing up, Moore wanted to be Spider-Man.

Jake Johnson is asked about his role as Peter Parker.

"It's Peter Parker at 40 and it's Peter Parker with a bad back and it's Peter Parker who is not sure he wants to be Spider-Man," Johnson said. "It's chubby Peter Parker!"

"Miles needs him to be a mentor but he doesn't see himself as a mentor," Johnson said. "He sees something special in this guy and it reminds him of what's important about having these powers."

What's their relationship like?

"There's two different perspectives," Moore said. "

What was it like to play Spider-Gwen for Hailee Steinfeld?

"The fact that she is really just the toughest and the coolest and the smartest and the most capable one in the room and she knows it, there's something really incredible about her," Steinfeld said. "She's got so much to her and it was really fantastic playing a character like her."

"Miles story takes place in an alternate dimension to our own," Lord said. "The thought of this movie was what if those different stories intersected. What would it do? How would it shake them up if these people met? I think that's the power of this character. We told this character's story so many different ways."

The team brought clips from the film.

Miles get dressed for school, as his pants shrink. He realizes he might have hit puberty. As he walks through school continuing his thought, text boxes showing the thoughts pop up on the screen like a comic panel. In school, he gets his hand stuck in Gwen's hair and can't get them out. After he fails to get his hand out, the nurse has to shave her head to get him free from her.

At night, Miles visits Peter's grave and apologizes for not doing what he wanted him to do. He thinks he can't do it alone. At his own grave, Peter Parker approaches from behind. Miles accidentally knocks him. As police approach, Miles grabs Peter and flees. Peter accidentally we web shoots onto a train and they both end up being dragged with it. It plays like a music video with witty beats of dialogue interspersed.

Later, Peter is tied to a punching bag. Miles realizes he is Peter Parker and questions why he isn't dead. He goes on to figure out that Peter is from a different universe and can teach him how to be Spider-Man. Peter freed himself.

Later, there is a hall of Spider-Man suits. Kingpin reveals himself, his body is massive. He is going to hunt Spider-Man. The two flee from a lab and use trees in the woods to run. They are pursue by armed scientists with laser guns. After getting caught in webs, Gwen Stacy saves them, and says she is from another, another dimension.

The Lizard chases them in a quick cut. Explosions in New York City. Action beats.

In a Spider-Cave, Spider-Man Noir greets them, with Penny Parker her giant robot voiced by Komiko Glenn, and Spider-Ham voiced by John Mulaney.

A compilation of the news from the panels:
Lane opened the panel by thanking the people who made the presentation possible. He welcomed Radomski, Wilcox, James Mathis III (T’Challa) and Daisy Lightfoot (Shuri) onto the stage, then rolled a clip from the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest.

The clip found T’Challa fighting Tiger Shark, who had come into possession of a magical conch shell — one that may look familiar to fans of the comics. He went toe-to-toe with Tiger Shark until the other Avengers, including Captain America and Black Widow, showed up to help.

Captain America, Black Widow, and Iron Man team up with Black Panther

Thor and Captain Marvel also makes an appearance where they are fighting outside

Ms. Marvel is there with her embiggened hands

Having Black Panther's sister helps flesh out the character

They have each other's backs

We will learn a lot about the history of Wakanda this season

The show has a James Bond feel - with lots of gadgets

“We saw T’Challa almost exclusively with the Avengers,” Mathis shared. He explained that the addition of Shuri will give T’Challa a new dynamic to play off of.

“He is extremely frustrating some times,” Lightfoot said. “He is the king, but she brings him down to size times… you see the value she has to him as a man and as a king.”

Another clip showed this dynamic in action, as Tiger Shark pursued Shuri. Though Shuri wanted to fight back, T’Challa told her to stand down and developed a plan with her. The two bantered together until they trapped Tiger Shark.

“This season, an old foe… returned and actually infiltrated Wakanda,” Wilcox explained. He added that Black Panther will have to take some actions that the Avengers may not necessarily agree with. “We’ll see a lot of what goes on inside Wakanda… in fact, we dedicate an entire episode of previous Black Panthers.”

The Shadow Council will appear in the series, which will feature villains Killmonger (Keston John), M’Baku, Klau (Trevor Paul), Zemo, Madame Mask (Wynn Everett) and Tiger Shark (Matt Mercer). Scott Porter will play White Wolf. Stan Lee and Mark Hamill will also lend their voices to the show, though their characters were not revealed.

An Avenger dies this season

Spider-Man will be appearing on Black Panther Quest this season

The Black Panther voice cast got the scripts before Black Panther the movie came out

Lane invited Kathreen Khavari, who voices Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Man actor Robbie Daymond to the stage as well.

Black Panther’s Quest will debut September 23rd on Disney XD.
Killmonger will be different from the movie in the cartoon. He's the ambassador of Atlantis.

Atlantis is the Soviet Union villains needed for this Black Panther type show.

The orchid is not used in the show, but there will be something similar to it's role.

Hawkeye will have a juicy story this season, a lot of emotional range

“What I love about Ms. Marvel, what I love about Kamala Kahn, is that she’s shaping young minds that haven’t been affected by propoganda yet,” Khavari shared. “Kamala means the world to me because she’s helping shape the mind of those kids who have not yet been corrupted by hate yet and see a Muslim character and goes, ‘Oh cool!'”

Marvel’s Spider-Man will also welcome villains like Mysterio, Silvermane, Hippo, Panda and Overdrive. An outside force will send these villains after Spider-Man, complicating his life even further. “It’s a pretty exciting arc and it’s really divided into two halves,” Lane explained. Spider-Gwen, Spider-Girl and Miles Morales “will come to the forefront when Spider-Man is a little out of play.”

Marvel will release new Super Hero Adventures shorts. Gwen Stacy’s Ghost-Spider, Anya “Spider-Girl” Corazon and Falcon will appear in the new season. The studio also showed a new Funko animated short, which featured a team up between Spider-Man and Iron Man as they attempted to take down the Vulture.

Robbie was a finalist for Ultimate Spider-Man, but that show had a different tone

The panel want to see the X-Men and Deadpool on their shows as bucket list characters

I kind of expected them to focus on Black Panther Quest at the panel. It's premiering a little earlier than I thought (I figured around mid-October), but if they'll follow the same logic of airing only half the Season before taking a break, it should end by December unless they air 2 episodes per week in some cases. Makes me wonder if they have any premieres planned for Halloween or Christmas this year.

As expected, too early to actually announce any new projects (if there will even be any in the near future...). But more animated shorts are still kind of neat.

Syfy Wire has a write-up of the 25th Anniversary for X-Men: TAS panel.

I'm curious if they'll have separate panels for Marvel Rising and the rest of Marvel Animation (in this case, Black Panther Quest and the rest of Guardians) at the New York Comic-Con in early October. Depending on it's premiere date, they might even screen the Marvel Rising movie at the Con before airing on TV.
