Not sure if Filmation has a chance, but i would've like to see more of the female group. And what about that project that takes place in the future?I guess you are talking about spin offs from the movie series like Real Ghostbusters or Extreme Ghostbusters, rather then the Flimation Ghostbusters right? I feel like if the 2016 movie had done better, there would have been a chance we could have had a new Ghostubsters cartoon.

I read somewhere about a Ghostbusters project that's sci fi. Been a long time now.and cyberpunk in the far future would be nice.I am not sure that works, if you are setting it in the future, you are adding in a bunch of different genres in the mix, that may or may not work, would it be far in the future and be really sci fi or would it a couple of decades in the future and be cyber punk or something.
With Ghostbusters we are talking about a pretty big franchise, it started off as a movie series and branched out into in comics, cartoons and video games. I do think the 2016 movie doing better would have helped it, now the franchise is in a bit of tough spot. We will see what Dan Ackroyd tries to do with this franchise in the future with Netflix, but I did hear he was thinking of trying to sell a live action Ghostbusters TV show to Netflix.
Dan Aykroyd Wants a Live-Action Ghostbusters Netflix Series
Aykroyd hasn't really been linked to the animated material. People were asking him about Ghostbusters at a con or something and he answered their questions about a hypothetical live action show on Netflix then the Internet sites ran with it and posted ' Aykroyd wants a Netflix show' articles.I heard Dan Ackroyd is actually involved in an animated Ghostbusters project on Netflix, but there hasn't been any updates on that recently.

I think the cartoon's ties to the film canon are looser than you say they are. Slimer was captured and imprisoned in the movie, and yet he's a main character on the show. If they relaunch the series the only continuity they'd really need to worry about is the old cartoon. The problem is this property is tied into the film series, the Real Ghostbusters cartoon used the first movie as the launching point for the series (Gozer was mentioned several times in Real Ghostbusters and elements from the second film were added to the later seasons).
Plot elements from the new movie may change the traditional dynamic from the Real Ghostbusters film.
Regardless I think the original Ghostbusters are better off as mentors, rather then the main stars, similar to the real Egon played in Extreme Ghostbusters.
