What were some notable pilots that weren't picked up? I know that H-B had a pilot for 'Teen Titans' in 1983. When that wasn't picked up by ABC they added the character Cyborg to the final (85-86) season of Superfriends (Super Powers). Cute animal shows dominated that season as the networks were still searching for the next 'Smurfs' type break-out.

Also the Super Powers episode 'The Fear' was originally produced as a pilot for a new Batman series. I assume for ABC as a companion for Super Powers.
ABC 1985:
8-9 Bugs Bunny Comedy Hour
9-10 Star Wars: Ewoks/ Droids
10 New Batman (a one-hour block could be titled 'Batman and The Super Powers Team')
10:30 The Super Powers Team
11 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (replacing Scooby-Doo repeat)
11:30 The Littles

Also NBC passed on a 'X-Men' pilot (Pryde of the X-Men) in 1989. I would've either picked it up over 'The Karate Kid' or cut the final season of Smurfs to a half-hour at 10:30.

Completely agree about the missed opportunity of the X-Men pilot of 1989. Gambling on this, NBC wouldn't relied too much on Saved by the Bell and the various similar series then SBTB producer Peter Engel did with California Dreams, Hang Time, City Guys.

IRC ABC's 87-88 line-up was a disaster as they continued to get killed against Muppet Babies and Smurfs. A one-hour Flintstone Kids failed against the two the previous year. Maybe ABC should've expanded Pound Puppies in season two since it did well in its first season. ALso, maybe Real Ghostbusters could've expanded to an hour in season two instead of waiting unitil season three. It was an established property and a very anticipated series. Little Clowns and Little Wixards were DOA back in '87.

ABC Hypothetical Fall 1986
8:00 Super Powers Team (Superfriends)
8:30 Care Bears
9:00-10:00 The Flintstone Kids
10:00 Pound Puppies
10:30 The Real Ghostbusters
11:00 Bugs Bunny/Tweety Show
11:30 Ewoks
12:00 The Littles (midseason: Weekend Special)
12:30-1:30 American Bandstand

ABC Hypothetical Fall 1987
8:00 The Care Bears
8:30 My Pet Monster
9:00-10:00 Pound Puppies
10:00-11:00 The Real Ghostbusters
11:00 The Flintstone Kids
11;30-12:30 Bugs Bunny/Tweety Show
12:30-1:30 American Bandstand

ABC Hypothetical Fall 1988
8:00 Pound Puppies
8:30-9:30 Disney's New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
9:30-10:30 Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters
10:30 A Pup Named Scooby-Doo
11:00-12:00 Bugs Bunny/Tweety Show
12:00 The New Adventures of Beany and Cecil (replaced by The Flintstone Kids)
12:30 ABC Weekend Special

It's possible that "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" was in development as far back as around 1982 or so. Marvel planned a Thor cartoon around then, this article doesn't say what network it was pitched to (I'm guessing it's NBC), or why it was rejected. Eventually, in 2008, they tried again, but the project was abandoned, possibly in favor of the aforementioned "Avengers" cartoon. Assuming the show was approved around 1984, I would've picked up the Thor/Avengers cartoon over Pink Panther and Sons (it could go to ABC instead, since it reran there the following season) or Going Bananas. For that season I would also cut Smurfs back to an hour and push Alvin up to an hour, since Alvin was already an established property, and Smurfs had well over 65 half hour episodes at that point.

My hypothetical NBC schedule for the 1984-85 season:

8:00 A.M. Snorks
8:30 A.M. Smurfs
9:30 A.M. Alvin and the Chipmunks
10:30 A.M. Mr. T
11:00 A.M. Kidd Video
11:30 A.M. The Avengers or Thor
12:00 P.M. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends
12:30 P.M. Going Bananas (Midseason: The Incredible Hulk)

For Fall 1998, Saban planned to create a Captain America cartoon for Fox Kids but it was cancelled in pre-production due to Marvel's bankruptcy.

8:00AM: The Mr. Potato Head Show
8:30AM: Power Rangers in Space
9:00AM: Godzilla: The Series
9:30AM: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
10:00AM: The Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog
10:30AM: Captain America
11:00AM: Mad Jack the Pirate
11:30AM: Oggy and the Cockroaches

It's also thought that there was plans to give Mystic Knights a second season titled Mystic Knights: Battle Thunder.
