The USA is currently at 140,886 confirmed cases with 2467 deaths. I've noticed the "death rate" is inching higher over the last few days. It was at 1.4%, then to 1.5, then 1.6 and now at 1.7%

The President also says to expect the "peak in deaths" to be in 2 weeks. Dr. Fauci also said in an interview with CNN today that the total death toll could be 100,000 to 200,000 when it's all finally finished.

March is almost over. I'd really like for "the worst" to be over by the end of April.

The government in Canada is saying we could possibly be in for multiple rounds of the virus and social distancing until it ends for good, which I'd imagine would be a vaccine or cure. Multiple rounds would be in line with SARS. We'll see what happens I suppose, but the government is also saying this round will last months, not weeks. The American government seems to be far optimistic, we've basically been told that this will last well into the summer. Remember, we were the first ones to pull out of the Olympics, which kind of reflects the country's belief that this will not be over for a while.

To be clear, I didn't mean that the threat would be over by the end of April, my hope is more that April is the worst month and then things get less and less bad over the months following that.

SARS started in November 2002 and was under control by June/July 2003. Granted, there was only 8,000 cases of SARS in those months. But wouldn't it be nice if we could have this largely overcome by the end of summer?

But we'll see. Right now, we're all living from week to week. It's too soon to say with certainty what life will be like by the end of summer.

The number of infections has risen to 6400+, yesterday it was up to 5900+, however from Saturday to yesterday it was the highest increase. Meanwhile the number of deaths in Portugal is up to 141.

In Japan, a comedian died. More Japanese are getting more concerns about the possible future.

Now at 156,931 cases in the USA with 2,880 deaths. That's a 1.8% death rate. It's creeping up still.

EDIT: Now at 161,807 cases, with 2978 deaths. Still 1.8%.

Geez, I can't believe how fast they're adding these up (and I know it's partially do to increased testing capabilities, but goodness....)

EDIT: It's now April 1st, the number of cases is 189,633 with 4,081 deaths. That's a death rate of 2.1%.

The number of new cases in Portugal is of over 9000. Do not read "over 9000" in the sense you were expecting, though

However the number is on a far slower rise. In Braga alone we have like 265 cases or something. The number of recoveries is up to 68. Is there a sign of hope?

In the USA, all counties in seven states (Arizona, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts) have at least one case of the virus. Don't count Hawaii because of Kalawao, where no case has emerged. I'm using this map as my guide.

Gotta love how someone in my hometown in a published letter to the newspaper thought we shouldn't listen to Doctor Fauci since he's "only" an infectious disease specialist and not a virologist; therefore, we should open all the businesses back up because the economy is much more important to save. Sadly, a pandemic of stupidity is competing with the actual pandemic. This is especially grotesque since the first local death, albeit a patient from a neighboring county, was just reported as well as the coroner examining another death for a possible link to covid19.

Well, jumped up another 8 cases to 23. Doesn't sound like a lot but testing here is still limited to people feeling really bad. In fact, only around 0.7% of the county's population has been tested.

The USA has an advantage though: a very low population density. This makes social distancing a lot easier for Americans than for Europeans.

I believe we need to weigh the input of economists as well. It's important we combat the virus but it's also important to take into account how many lives are destroyed by losing their job or having their house taken away. I fear we cannot stay like this for a full year. A recession (or depression) has the potential to cost people their lives just as much as the virus. It's fine to also hear from lawyers concerned about civil liberty violations in these "stay at home" orders, or from law enforcement officials concerned about a rise in crime. This is new territory for all of us.

Having said that, I certainly respect Dr. Fauci (and Dr. Birx). I'm following the orders of my county officials, who have imposed a 30 day "stay at home" order on where I live. I don't have the answers but I'm listening for proposals on what comes next.

Sketchy reports from Australia claim that they are working on a cure for the coronavirus, ivermectin. More studies will be made. What we know is that it has the ability of killing off the symptoms within 48 hours with effects witnessing a massive drop by the end of the first 24. Mass production won't be for now.
