In recent years, there has been some doubt regarding a pilot that was created 10 years ago which gave new light to Hanna-Barbera's Wacky Races franchise, titled "Wacky Races Forever". But, combined with Warner Bros. Animation's "milking" of the company's "Big 3" franchises, Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, and Looney Tunes, there's been minimal hope of an older HB franchise to step into the children's media market, hence why the aforementioned Wacky Races reboot pilot was not picked up. However, as of this post, there was a new video that surfaced promoting the Australian Cartoon Network and Boomerang feeds. It showcases the 2016 lineup of new programming. You'd miss it in the blink of an eye, but at 1:11 a certain, unfamiliar title card appears.

With some new clips for yet-to-air CN Originals (Powerpuff Girls reboot) and acquired series (Grizzy and the Lemmings) the authenticity of this video is likely confirmed. Boomerang rebranded earlier this year, and about a year ago this month, some new, original programming has been promised for the international feeds that represent the brand. But is rebooting Wacky Races a smart choice for Turner and WBA? What are your thoughts?

If it gets rebooted hopefully CN doesn't steal it from Boomerang.

Cartoon Network and Boomerang are both owned by the same companies, so Turner/Time-Warner would essentially be stealing from itself.

Anyway, if there's really going to be a Wacky Races reboot, I'll watch it regardless of which channel it airs on.

He was refering to CN running Wabbit and Be Cool, Scooby Doo! first after months of news stating they'll premier on Boomerang. And on the topic: Yes! More non-Scooby Hanna-Barbera revivals are welcome.

I could definitely see this being mainly on Boomerang, with some exceptions of it airing on CN or both networks in other countries.

Nice to see a reboot other than LT, T&J, and SD. I hope this is Boomerang exclusive other than cross-promotion.

This for me very good and also unexcepted, since we know that CN wanted to reboot Wacky Races earlier in 2006 with that "Wacky Races Forever" pilot but it didn't make it, but now they seem to be back at it. Hopefully it will be good and also it should remain with some ideas from the pilot, like Peter Perfect and Penelope Pitstop being married and having Piper and Parker as their children. :)

I could get into watching the new version. I'd just hope that there'd be times where Dastardly & Muttly could win as well or any other evil characters - and not need a cheating method to win.

I picture all sorts of goofy things happening I'd never except Hanna-Barbera themselves to do in the 60s show -- for example ... wouldn't it be freaky and the slightest bit funny if both Dastardly and Penelope were about to cross the finish line for a 1st-place tie, but realize they might have feelings for each other and stop just before the line to decide who should really win the race only to have someone else who at the start of the race be deemed for last place only to come out on top?

Apparently, there's an article about this from C21Media, but I can't read it because I'm not subscribed:

I got it! And a satisfying tidbit of information, too! We have a confirmation for Boomerang and we already know it will air next year.

Wacky Races reboot on starting grid

Hanna-Barbera cartoon Wacky Races is the latest animation classic set for a reboot at Turner Broadcasting System (TBS)-owned network Boomerang, C21 understands.

Wacky Races

The new series will air next year as part of the broadcaster’s deal with fellow Time Warner company Warner Bros Animation (WBA) for almost 450 half-hours of original programming.

Wacky Races first appeared on CBS in the US in 1968 and charts the rivalry between characters such as Dick Dastardly, Muttley and Penelope Pitstop as they compete to win the title of World’s Wackiest Racer.

The exact airdate of the reboot is not yet known. Turner Broadcasting did not respond to C21’s request for comment.

Other new shows being mined from the Hanna-Barbera, MGM and WBA libraries for Cartoon Network’s sibling channel include the forthcoming Be Cool Scooby-Doo! and Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production.

The latter two shows will premiere this fall on all Boomerang channels worldwide, as well as on various Cartoon Network channels internationally.

Boomerang has long been home to classics such as Tom & Jerry but was recently given a revamp around the world and will now host original productions for the first time.

TBS has also been acquiring new series from the international market for Boomerang, taking new Peanuts from France Télévisions and a Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs spin-off from DHX Media, alongside other toons.

Well there links in this discussion, otherwise more info for this upcoming show is not going to be easy to find as of right now.

As you can guess, I'm looking forward and am curious how it will turn out. The title card is looking good. I'm liking the checkerboard pattern in the back. Hopefully we get more images soon and hopefully it will be a Boom exclusive. Wouldn't hurt if they re-aired the original as a lead in.

As happy as I am, I'm a little disappointed because I was working on a Wacky Races-like cartoon for the web where audience interaction could factor how the race goes.

Do it anyway. It's on Boomerang; who's going to find it?
