I did this last year, might as well do it again. What were your favorite/least favorite shows/movies/trends this year for streaming animation?
My favorite new show was, ironically, based on an old property, Ranma 1/2. Part of the fun was waiting to see when certain favorite characters or arcs would appear, but it also stood well on its own, and the lavish animation and more modern score definitely helped.
As for runners up, I still enjoyed following the Camp Cretaceous gang in their follow-up series Chaos Theory, even if the story is getting long in the tooth at this point. At least they're taking the story in different ways other than "stuck on an island with a bunch of dinos".
Also enjoyed the eye candy of Arcane season 2, even if some parts of the story from season 1 weren't fresh in my mind, and it's not exactly a "fun" show.
Hazbin Hotel was worth the wait, a surprisingly upbeat series given the Hell setting. I attribute that to the optimistic lead. By contrast, Helluva Boss always leaves me feeling cold.
Batman: Caped Crusader was a nice mature throwback to B:TAS, even if the animation is nowhere near that old series's level. Still, am definitely interested in season 2.
Suicide Squad Isekai had a lot of fun animated energy, even if I'm tired of the isekai premise by now.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft was mid. Some parts of it were okay but I feel like they are still missing the essence of her characterization.
Worst? Might as well be the first to say it, what little rope I gave to Velma's first season was gone by season 2, as its gimmicks wore off and I really didn't care what happened to anybody.
Dropped Tiny Toon Looniversity after its season 2 premiere- just wasn't doing it for me comedically.
Justice League: Crisis of Infinite Earths was overly long and stiffly animated, and I feel like they wrote themselves into a corner with that ending.
What say you?
