Amazon has released the trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader and IGN released some special coverage. Watch the trailer below.

Thoughts:

- This looks like if Year One and Beware had a baby. That scene in the squad room with Montoya leading the police in a Batman response with another guy in a head cast (Harvey Bullock?) is straight out of Year One. Even Linklater's Batman feels like it's channeling Ben Mackenzie and Anthony Ruivivar the most o_O.

- Definitely not 100% for kids when you're dropping "hell" and dead bodies .

- I heard Corey Burton and Kimberly Brooks :).

- Black and white television :anime:!

- I know this isn't exactly what they said, but it's kind of funny how they go "we get to dive deep into the supporting cast and their stores and make it a true ensemble because Batman is so detached and unapproachable" :p.

- I can kind of see what they're talking about though, his dialogue in the trailer is 90% just focused on the case or observations like he's completely divorced himself emotionally from what's going on outside trying to stop crimes. I'm curious if the only thing that will really humanize him in this series is his attraction to Catwoman (which he hates) and his relationship with Alfred who seems like the only person he really interacts with when he's not playing Bruce Wayne .

- Interesting take on Two-Face's scarring, it's trying to be more realistic and less pronounced than usual but it just doesn't seem to work as much for me as the usual half/half black and white look .

- Catwoman straight up tazing him and running around rooftops in a dress and heels, you have to admire their commitment to Golden Age Catwoman ;).

- I'm guessing the Clayface episode is the one they go all out on the "Errol Flynn" judging by the swordfight .

- Is that acid scene Basil Karlo becoming Clayface ?

- The Batmobile looks like a scaled down version of the B:TAS Batmobile :proud:.

- I remember in the leaks people thought Harleen was Renee Montoya but Montoya's actual design actually isn't all that different from Harleen...who she is also dating in this :rolleyes2:.

- Is that thing possessing Alfred from the Gentleman Ghost or Nocturna episode :ack:?

- Everything about their take on Harley and the way they talk about Timm creating her just comes off to me like trying to divorce her from a lot of the personality and characterization Paul Dini gave her as a co-creator :(.

- I'm glad despite also race-bending Barbara that she's still a redhead...and hopefully Timm will be able to restrain himself from doing BrucexBabs again beyond having Babs possibly admire Batman with the "nice car" line. Also Babs with a gun :rolleyes2:.

"The First "Batman: Caped Crusader" Trailer Is Here"

capedcrusader.jpg

"The first trailer for JJ Abrams and Bruce Timm’s Batman: Caped Crusader has at last been revealed. It’s full of everything we hoped for: dramatic leaps, painful punches, gangsters with pencil mustaches, Tommy guns spitting lead, dark shadows, Art Deco designs, and grit for days. And just think….WB didn’t want us to have it!

Originally announced for HBO Max alongside a load of other projects, the show’s existence was threatened when Zaslav took charge and started cancelling everything. Batman: Caped Crusader was one of the few projects allowed to be shopped around, though, and Amazon Prime gladly took it. We’ll get to see Season One before the summer is through."

They seem within the same age range here so... I don't think I can be as put off with a possible relationship when the history is completely different.

I can see how you might get that impression but there’s quite a few differences. It’s a bit more like a “real world” roadster than the BTASmobile — kinda like the front end of a ‘37 Cord mashed up with the back end of a ‘63 Corvette .

I think you’re seeing an ulterior motive where there really isn’t any. We simply wanted to see if we could put a fresh spin on her that would be unique to the show, while still retaining noticeable traces of her original DNA. This new variation on the character is in no way meant to replace or supecede the “Classic Harley” from BTAS — or the Harley from the SUICIDE SQUAD movies or her own animated TV series, for that matter.

I do think the CAPED CRUSADER Harley is very cool (and Jamie Cheung’s vocal performance is AMAZING) but I’m never going to not love the original red-black-and-white Harley with Arleen Sorkin rocking the Paul Dini dialogue. I mean, come on.

Though I am looking forward to seeing if cosplayers will dig the new gold/black outfit :)
hopefully Timm will be able to restrain himself from doing BrucexBabs
Really not a problem.

If that gets you going, wait til you see all the rotary-dial phones….

Sorry, I’m a bit confused — are we talking about his face or his suit? ;)

Am I crazy or did I see the character model of Arnold Stromwell from BTAS during the Bruce Timm moment?
Long-time fans will have fun freeze-framing that complete microfiche scene in Episode 5 …

I appreciate seeing Batman speeding around in some real beauties again and not tanks.

I'm sure some cosplayers will love having a new design to play around with. Especially after they see her in action.

Can't sleep on rotary phones. They were as much fun to play with as record players and view-masters.

Kind of an interesting thought but this show feels to me like what would've happened to Golden Age Batman if he'd never gotten Robin.

It's all in the details :).

Totally cool! I'm willing to give it a chance. Though I think red and black pop better. Though the color scheme also makes me think of Jewelee :p.

But Jamie Cheung is always amazing :D!
Really not a problem.
Glad to hear it :D!

The trailer brought to mind a Bruce Timm quote from my treasured February 1994 issue of Cinefantastique-
“At first, I wanted it to be a real scary and exciting adventure show. Going from Jean (MacCurdy’s) edict about making it like the Fleischer cartoons and knowing of the popularity of the first Tim Burton movie, I thought we’d do a straight, pulp style action adventure show that was dark and moody and exciting and action filled. I initially thought of the Batman character as being like a force of God, where he wasn’t even human. He’d show up and beat people up, and disappear without ever saying a word. I wanted to treat him as very grim and very mythical.”
This seems to be very much that show!

I forgot Onomatopoeia briefly appeared in a Green Arrow DC Nation short, so this wouldn't be his first animated appearance. Still looking forward to seeing (and hearing) him on the show.
Can't wait to see what Green Arrow villain they'll steal next, though I guess turnabout is fair play :p.

In 2014, if you told me over the next 10 years there'd be a version of the villain in an animated Green Arrow short, a new take in a live action Superman television series, and one in an animated Batman streaming series -- I'd slowly back away from you. lol.

The batmobile looks like a mix between the classic BTAS one and the Matt Reeve's The Batman one to me.

If there's anything I'm not feeling very much from the trailer is Two-Face's look, it's less "colorful" and Im guessing it's totally gonna make sense in the context of the episode, but looking at him without the split color suit and not having a different "color" in his face, makes him look a bit dull.

But man, I must have watched that trailer like 5 times today. I'm so excited!!

This was an exciting trailer. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of it and a good look at the characters. I was surprised we got Two-Face at all. It'll get hard to get used to the scarring being in the other side.

With the inclusion of Gentleman Ghost and Nocturna, I wonder if they'll be supernatural in nature or smoke and mirrors. Also, I wonder who that scientist with the fist imprinted on him was. First instinct is Clayface, but he also shows up on the montage.

I wonder about that, too. But we have super powers on the show with Clayface and Onomatopoeia. Why not supernatural? That shot of Alfred looked like he was legit being possessed. On the other hand, they took influence from 30s and 40s horror. There was a Sherlock movie called The Scarlet Claw where villagers think the prominent Lady Penrose was killed by a monster but it turns out to be a murderous actor who is a master of disguise. Or you know, in basic terms, Scooby-Doo antics.

Technically, Onomatopoeia does not have superpowers. He's a regular, non-powered superhero serial killer (although, based on his attire, I suspect that he's been reimagined as a hit man with a gimmick). As for the other thing, it was BTAS that had a "no aliens, no ghosts" rule. Maybe Caped Crusader has no such restriction.

One of the earliest Batman stories (in Detective Comics issues #31 & 32) pit the Dark Knight against a literal, supernatural vampire, so I don't doubt that we'll see the supernatural appear here too.

I have to agree with @Vuxovich cause' certain things can't be all Zaslav's fault. Maybe if AT&T never merged with Time Warner in the first place...
If it wasn't for Netflix's animation division restructuring, then Warner Bros. Discovery would never cancel the animated projects.
Also, ''Megas XLR'' became the next ''Sonic Underground'' because I have heard that the Megas XLR reboot was canned.
At this moment, we live in the world where the fans and internet users control everything. Thanks to them, Zaslav is blamed for everything wrong with the planned animated projects for Cartoon Network.
@RegularCapital Which UK broadcaster do you think will pick up WBA & Anderson Entertainment's "Hit Squad"? Do you think it would be ITV (since they’ve broadcasted Gerry Anderson’s works before) or perhaps Channel 4 (since they’re more willing to allow mature content)?
