From the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"“Astro Bot” Reviews Exceed Expectations, Becomes “Game Of The Year” Contender"

Astro-Box-2.webp

"There were two main headlines that came out of the Sony “State of Play” from May of this year: One, that “Concord” looks terrible (which proved correct, going by they’ve already pulled that game offline after 2 weeks). And two: “Astro Bot” looks delightful (which has also proven true).

But now that the Astro Bot game has come out, it’s proven to be not just a visually stunning 3D platformer, it’s also quickly sizing up to be a “Game of the Year” contender! Review scores have poured in over the last few days, and on the day of the game’s launch, with 113 reviews submitted, Astro Bot has a score of 94 on Metacritic, making it (so far) to be the highest rated game of the year!"

This game has over 50 character cameos returning from Astro’s Playroom such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and Jak & Daxter.

Other universes such as The Legend of Dragoon, Devil Dice, and Dark Cloud are new cameos. They did not appear in the former.

This game does look pretty damn good. There was also the Astro Bot controller, but too bad I haven't been able to snag one.

As for Astro Bot being a PS mascot, I would think Ratchet & Clank would've already filled that niche for platforming games. Of course, it might not hurt to have another one.

New DLC that will be free will be available by the end of this year; will include new VIP bots not seen in base game and new speedrun levels:

I expect to see Helldivers and Stellar Blade appear via VIP Bots.

You bring up a good point, why didn't "Ratchet & Clank" every take off as the PlayStation mascot?

The only thing I can figure is that when Ratchet & Clank first came out, it was surrounded by all the other PS2 era platformers (Jak & Daxter, Sly Bandicoot, etc).

But "Astro's Playroom" was built in to every PS5 unit, and yes, that was a short game, but now with the full blown "Astro Bot" game.....this just looks to be the face of PlayStation, going forward.

Don't know who Sly Bandicoot is, but he must've been a strong sleeper hit to give Ratchet & Clank a good run for their bolts!

This is the most excited I've been for a PlayStation Studios title since Rift Apart from 3 years prior, though it is weird to think that a series that has largely only recieved entries for technical show-offs now has a full fledged release just for the sake of it.

In terms of cameos, I'm gonna go wild here and want some nods to the Disney games that Sony co-published (of which there suprisingly is a lot, mostly for the PlayStation 1 and 2 but also a few for the Portable and Vita.
