I have always wanted to know the popularity of different series in China. I remember seeing a scene from The Karate Kid that featured the SpongeBob SquarePants episode: Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III in Mandarin. From what I've heard, the Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon franchises were popular in China.

What other series are highly popular in the country?

*ahum* Winnie the Pooh *ahum*

Nickelodeon, Nick Junior, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and the Disney networks are all dubbed into Chinese for Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia (usually one channel with English, Chinese and Malay, and sometimes other languages). Over 42 million Chinese people are living in those countries, that's about as much as the population of Canada or Spain.

These channels are not broadcast in Mainland China, however, local channels do air some of those cartoons. Winnie the Pooh is obviously forbidden.

The most popular cartoons are probably the ones on the state-owned CCTV-14: CCTV-14少儿频道官网_CCTV节目官网_央视网 They air Paw Patrol, for instance.

Transformers cartoons are popular by virtue of piggybacking off the success of the movies.

Branching into film for a second, Your Name was extremely successful in China.

Zootopia is also extremely popular there.
