I'm with both of you all. While I'm thankful for the impact Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Steven Universe had towards multiple audiences... the CHECK it era had so many other series that should've lasted much longer.
Even though Toonami returning and Rick & Morty were adult swim related I...
2006, also known as the YES era, was the beginning of the end for me too, and I was still in CN's main target audience. You know when something inside of you says "something ain't right with this".... you get that eerie feeling, and I knew hard times were along the way, then Re-Animated, TOM 4...
It's always Powerhouse era for me. 2002 and 2003 are the full years of CN I enjoyed the most, and I don't think any other years in its history have come close to this day in overall variety, feel and appeal of the network. 2004 and 2005 are right in 2nd place (good runner ups), the...
When I was a kid, I hated My Gym Partner's A Monkey, Squirrel Boy, and even Robotboy. Those didn't interest me at all, and I'd switch the channel over to Nickelodeon or Toon Disney in a heartbeat whenever those came on, and I was still a kid back then in elementary school when those came out...
I'm going to try to put together reasons I've noticed over the years.... but I'll start here... the 2000s was the first full decade of major change for animation for both TV and cinema in a way we had never seen in animation's entire existence decades prior. Around the turn of the millennium we...
Everyone here has made so many excellent points. I was also one of those pundits as a teenager in the late 00’s and early 10’s, who was immature on YouTube comment sections and said nothing but negative things about Stuart Snyder.
Now… I look back, think back, and realized what we had back...
Okay.... so... first of all, I want to say, when I was a kid watching Cartoon Network, whether it was an anime from Japan, a DC comic book cartoon, or an American action cartoon, all of it was enjoyable to me. All the shows were a variety of different art styles even if traditionally the anime...
It's been a long time coming. The last time I posted a fantasy schedule was almost a decade ago. It's hard to believe. This one I spent a few hours putting together. Of course, this will never happen, but I can only imagine, what if you mix it all up in a time where streaming has become more...
I was there in 2002 when AS was only 2 nights a week which meant CN was 24 hours for 5 times a week, and in 2003 when AS became 5 times a week, the only nights CN was 24 hours was Friday nights/Saturday mornings and Saturday nights/Sunday mornings. They knew kids didn't have school the next day...
You know what they say. You don't know what you have or how you have it 'til it's gone. That's how I felt when this site was on its ongoing outage. I'm thankful to comment on this official site again and see you all with your familiar avatars!
I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts on this thread.
What Jetix did to Toon Disney within the blink of an eye (2 years), is what [adult swim] has done to Cartoon Network in a much longer span (20 years).
Truth be told, while I didn't see it coming that [adult swim] would eventually take up 13...
I started a thread similar to this almost 8 years ago. Time flies its crazy. Shows that started off on Cartoon Network then moved to adult swim. Full credit goes to "Daikun" for helping me out with this list. I know a lot of these have already been mentioned. But I do want to say real quick...
Toon Disney went thru a huge transformative period in 2004 as well, with the addition of Jetix, the removal of Disney Afternoon shows and changing its logo, and Nickelodeon to a small extent had some changes as well. 2004 was a huge transition year for multiple TV networks & pop culture in many...
Now when I think about it. You're absolutely right! Because Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy started out part of Grim & Evil (shared with Evil Con Carne), and Grim & Evil's pilot was part of CN's Big Pick event in 2000, while Codename: Kids Next Door's pilot was also part of CN's Big Pick Event...
It makes complete sense. For decades it has always been the norm for Cartoon Network to air Warner Bros animated shows, whether it was new episodes of shows owned by Warner Bros, or even if it was acquired from other networks (like Kids WB back in the day).
I'm not sure if this is like that time Hanna-Barbera became defunct & merged with Warner Bros Animation in 2001, or that time when Nickelodeon Studios shutdown in 2005. Is it a combination of both? I'm not 100% sure on this.
But either way, from what I'm hearing, if Warner Bros & Cartoon...
Late for this thread but I can bring up some points here, and a lot of valid points have already been brought up above. First of all, I agree that 2003 and 2009 should be separated while 2004-2008 should be its own. The Cartoon Cartoons era was still active for the majority of 2003 anyway, it...
Family Matters is one of my all time favorite sitcoms. I used to bingewatch that when reruns aired Nick@Nite a little over a decade ago. I find it hilarious that Family Matters was on Cartoon Network (part of the Acme Night block) but I love it. It reminds me of when Fresh Prince of Bel Air was...
Cartoon Network has always done marathons thru-out the years, but the difference is that, in the old days of the network, marathons were only done on special occasions, and the marathon was advertised very well with a lot of effort put into the promo, and it got any viewer hyped up big time for...
As far as bumpers go, it's the Yes, Fall, or the later CHECK it 3.0 or 4.0 eras that were my least favorite. It's a shame that the City bumpers got replaced by some lame downgraded Yes bumpers in 2006. The programming from the City era remained the same for the Yes era for most the part, I just...
As someone who was in elementary school between 2001-2007 and watched Cartoon Network religiously thru-out that time period, I would have to say 2007 is when the network started going downhill for obvious reasons we've known for years, however, the network made a comeback in 2010 when I started...
If we're talking about full decades (not specific eras), it's the 2000's (2000-2009), and there's no contest. Not up for debate. Look at how Cartoon Network was in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, etc. alone, the height of the Cartoon Cartoons era and the amount of CN originals at the time, plus...
I'm gonna quote your post here as a response, I totally with your post 100%, and I'm gonna add more to it, I'm also talking to everyone else as well. Along with the other networks you mentioned, same goes for Food Network as well, they just air reality food competitions now rather than being a...
If we're talking about 2004-2008 as a whole, definitely Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends. I saw the show when it first came out and it was the craze throughout the City Era and beyond up to that point.
Ben 10 came out in late 2005 but I feel like Ben 10 got popular in the later half of that...
2002 because it's the 1st full year from beginning to end I can remember the network very vividly (although I discovered the network in the middle of 2001, but that year is a blur), and it was right in the middle of the Powerhouse Era and the 10th anniversary of the network. It's when I...
Daikun explained my similar thoughts in a nutshell. I’m on my phone so I can’t really say much.
I’m going to take this a different approach, the way we watch animation is currently in the transition from cable to streaming only. The way generations watch cartoons always changes every few...
1. Powerhouse (1998-2004) - 10/10
2. Checkerboard (1992-1997) - 8/10
3. City (2004-2007) - 7/10
4. CHECK it (2010-2016) - 7/10
5. Fall/Noods (2007-2010) - 4/10
6. Dimensional (2016-present) - 2/10
I'm not going to rank the Starburst, Summer 2007, and Yes! eras because those were too short...
Powerhouse for variety & programming. City for bumpers & blocks. It's complicated, but yeah. Those years were the height of my childhood & my entire elementary school years. I've known Cartoon Network since I was 5, the same year I started Kindergarten, and the same year Jim Samples came in...
The best year for Cartoon Network this decade IMO, and the absolute peak of the CHECK it era in terms of variety and quality. The 20th anniversary was amazing, as well as the Cartoon Planet block that showed all the classics.
Wow, huge breaking news. Which makes Christina Miller the shortest tenured president of all the CN presidents. Reading these comments so far, I have to say, sure, there were no longer live action shows with Christina Miller, and she has come up with some good streaming services CN and BOOM...
2012 and 2013 is when the CHECK IT era peaked, I think both of those years in its entirety were the peak of the era, but if I had to pick one year of the two I would pick 2012.
My entire high school years were spent in the CHECK IT 1.0-3.0 eras (2010-2014). I'll always remember this period as the "Cartoon Network Renaissance". The peak of Adventure Time and Regular Show bringing Cartoon Network back from its dark age. Many other great shows like Sym-Bionic Titan...
This isn't even just on the internet, but also in my personal life too growing up in school. I'm only going to do top 7 because I can't think of any others I remember after these.
1. Megas XLR (Speechless really lol, it was so great, a crime it only lasted for one year)
2. Duck Dodgers (Of all...
Hell yeah chief. WatchMojo is complete trash, and how many times have we had these type of topics. I mean I love discussing my favorite Cartoon Network shows often, but c'mon there's already recent/active threads about top XX Cartoon Network XXXX.
For me, and yes I've changed my list multiple times....... for nostalgia purposes
1. Ed, Edd n Eddy
2. Dexter's Laboratory
3. Codename: KND
4. Teen Titans
5. Powerpuff Girls
6. Justice League/Unlimited
7. Courage The Cowardly Dog
8. Ben 10/Alien Force/Ultimate Alien
9. Duck Dodgers
10. Grim...
If you grew up in a household of Christian parents, then that "Speed Demon" episode of the Powerpuff Girls was super scary, because it completely referenced a post-apocalyptic future, post-WW3 vibe, where civilization had ended and Satan took over the Earth to HELL. The atmosphere had a hellish...
and honestly, if you want a really good Cartoon Network for yourself today, just go on the CN APP (I'm not that knowledgeable about it TBH but I'm sure it's more worth using the APP than relying on the network) or go On Demand on your cable provider (I have Charter Spectrum) and you'll get...
I used to think Stuart Snyder was responsible for Young Justice's cancellation, but he actually wasn't. No president in office would have affected Young Justice's cancellation along with many other action shows throughout the time (Sym-Bionic Titan, Generator Rex, Green Latern, etc.) including...
You really don't need much variety on the schedule anymore because of the streaming era we're in now. CN isn't the only network that doesn't have much variety on the schedule anymore. My reason for hating CN since I've lasted payed attention to it is because throughout the 2nd half of this...
I may have brought this up already, but after Gumball ends, Steven Universe will be the only remaining Renaissance era show to me. Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Clarence are already over.
