You know that Scooby Doo/Courage The Cowardly Dog crossover that was mentioned awhile back? It's unknown if it's happening, but if it is, John R. Dilworth is apparently not involved.

There's the trailer for the Scooby Doo Halloween movie. It's written and directed by Maxwell Atoms, the creator of The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy.

Wow, I was not expecting a Batman crossover o_O.

Man, these movies really love Elvira. I guess Bill Nye had fun in Scooby-Doo and Guess Who :p.

Looks like a really fun Scooby and Halloween movie :).

Looking at the trailer it's okay at first but seeing that along with the franchise,It feels so sad because the scooby doo franchise has become a soulless cash cow franchise in need of celebrity guest stars.

Celebrity guest stars and wacky crossovers have been Scooby-Doo tradition at least all the way from 70's with The New Scooby-Doo Movies show, where every episode had a famous gues star (not too different from Guess Who Scooby-Doo).

Considering how Walmart has given earlier releases for some of the movies (Mystery Map, KISS, Return To Zombie Island, just to give some examples), this isn't a surprise.

There will also be a panel for Happy Halloween at the New York Comic-Con.
Sunday, October 11
8:40am PT/11:40am ET – HAPPY HALLOWEEN, SCOOBY-DOO!
Be part of the first-ever convention panel to feature the four core voices of the Scooby-Doo franchise as they chat about their all-new film, Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! – and then show you the first eight minutes of the movie! Scooby-Doo and Shaggy’s favorite holiday is upon us! With fake monsters and candy galore, Halloween is heaven for these hungry foodies going door-to-door. But this year, their sweet holiday turns sour when the neighborhood pumpkin patch is infected by toxic ooze, creating high-flying jack-o-lanterns, and a king-sized pumpkin leader squashing everything in its path. It’s up to Scooby-Doo and the gang as they team up with their pals, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and Bill Nye the Science Guy, to solve this mystery of gigantic proportions and save Crystal Cove! Enjoy a fun panel discussion amongst voiceover legend Frank Welker (The Transformers), in his 50th year voicing Fred Jones and 18th year voicing Scooby-Doo; Grey Griffin (DC Super Hero Girls films) in her 20th year as Daphne Blake; Matthew Lillard (Twin Peaks, Bosch, Good Girls) celebrating his 18th year as Shaggy Rogers; Kate Micucci (Unikitty!) in her fifth year as Velma Dinkley; Cassandra Peterson (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark), director/producer/writer Maxwell Atoms (Fish Hooks, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy) and moderator Damian Holbrook (TV Guide Magazine senior writer). Then stay for a special sneak peek at the first eight minutes of the film. Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! arrives on DVD and Digital HD starting October 6.

Here's an interview with Maxwell Atoms.

So, I found a podcast that Jeremy Adams took part in with the Scooby Doo projects he took part in (Lego Scooby Doo shorts, ScoobyNatural, Scooby Doo Return To Zombie Island). The podcast is 43 minutes, and he starts talking about the latter at 22:35. Put simply, he mentions stuff like:

1. The movie was essentially a studio mandate, where the idea was given to him. He mentioned how working on the movie wasn't easy, especially with this being a sequel.

2. He largely followed what Jim Krieg said. He (Jim) thinks Scooby Doo works better when it doesn't really involve real monsters.

3. The reason as to why there's a heavier emphasis on the idea of fake monsters in the franchise these days is meant to harken back to the original series, and how there's always an explanation for these happenings. He says it's mainly a taste thing though, and it's possible for the pendulum to swing the other way and show more real monsters someday.

4. They were really keen on setting up a trilogy (or threeology) of movies.

5. In regards to Velma's skepticism, he mentioned how there would've been a plot point of her being so skeptical that she wouldn't let anyone leave the island.

6. He mentions the lighter tone of the movie partially being for his kids because of the original movie being a bit too scary for them. Given how the majority of the movies he's written are stuff like Lego DC DVD movies and Lego DC Superhero Girls, I'm not too surprised with this.

Ah, so trying to explain away the real monsters was something that came down from Jim Krieg...

Welp. IMO, this is why trying to do a Zombie Island sequel in the current Scooby-Doo climate was a mistake. Until that mindset changes, we were never gonna get something with a similar tone.

Yeah, I guess they wanted to tie-in to the anniversary without thinking through whether it was practical with the DTV's as they currently are...

I found this video interview that Maxwell Atoms took part in when it came to Happy Halloween Scooby Doo. It's about 28 minutes long. Here are the more important points, which is mainly in the first half.

1:50 He drew inspiration from the Halloween special from his own show, The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy.

6:25 He said how, when he wrote the movie, there were elements he had to include, such as Elvira and the Halloween setting. He also mentioned that if Bill Nye wasn't available, they would've gotten someone else.

10:30 He said the movie would've been released last year to coincide with the 50th anniversary.

11:35 He said that he mainly watched the Scooby Doo projects he was most familiar with when working on this. He didn't know that this was meant to be part of the trilogy with the previous 2 movies until pretty much right when he was about to start.

14:20 For Velma's mind palace, he mentions taking Influence from the BBC Sherlock Holmes series. He said that Daphne's behavior is reminiscent of how she was in Be Cool Scooby Doo, where she was more eccentric and kooky.

It looks like Amazon France has a description and release date for Scooby Doo In King Arthur's Court (now called The Sword And The SCOOB). It mentions a release date in France on February 24, meaning that a US release date is not too far off.

I think I like the new title :).

Considering the current movies, I can't wait to see them make sense of all the magic in this movie :p.
