I do not remember having ever seen the channel closing down for an hour, although I have confused memories ; I will ask a friend of mine
It may be some CN UK "handover" void

When CN Poland (CEE) still used to air CN UK (and from Autumn 2003 also Cartoon Network Pan-Euro) between 03:00-06:00 CET and during the first year of Polish CN during those night hours (2004/2005), most of TV guides on paper which carried the CN schedule either didn't list the retransmission of CN UK or CN Pan-Euro on their listings at all or they just list the CN UK/CN Pan-Euro retransmition as "Przerwa" (break) or like this. When I tried to see how looked Cartoon Network PL's start-up at 06:00 back in Spring 2003 I was heavily surprised to see "Gadget Boy" in English. (Back then I didn't know about the show's name nor the fact that during the time this show aired for 3 hours (between 03:00-06:00 CET/02:00-05:00 GMT, of course) on CN UK's night lineup.)

I also noticed that. No CN shows were related to sports news shows or The Guilty.
My guess is that he took the EPG data straight by the help of some computer programming, but something must have gone wrong; BTW his interesting page also contains listings from some other channels in other European markets (mostly the Vivendi ones) during that time: MediaHighWay EPG
Thanks for the find Moleoman!

In Italy was kind of similar (I guess in Poland even more, has the channel had a 3am start up; CN Too/Cartoonito anyone?)
I can't really remember if CN Italy had some kind of a 3am special handover bumper etc., but I remember having seen more than once the CN bouncing bumper, not sure when; BTW Tele+ used to list like that channels that would do a nighttime closedown (because of a Vivendi Canal+ influence, many channels used to not be 24hrs; Sky in 2003 mostly flattened this "fashion" gradually), so it's suspicious to me.. it could really be that CN Italy used to closedown at 5am; I'm still waiting for my friend's response

That's a bit weird: probably it was the only CN in the world to close down without handing over to another channel.
I'm waiting too. What did they show during that off-air period? Promos? CN's logo? The answer will be revealed very soon...

Many Tele+/Vivendi channels had the "French" fashion of an on screen logo and "programmes are back at.." or even just an onscreen logo without anything.. maybe I was too "rough" with details; it was not most channels anyways (DC always was 24hrs) but mostly the Tele+ channels (with some exceptions), as you can see on the website
This beautiful closedown/ident of the Italian counterpart of Season was carried over here too, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mvQtOJo50I

If they had a 5am closedown it must've been for a short time only, as I cannot really remember it and I remember having seen more than once CN UK at 5am-ish

The channel variety was starting to go downhill early on CN UK!

But it was still quite enjoyable back then.
I assume that CN HQ was better by your point of view.
CN HQ has always been better than CN UK (even CN Italy until a few years ago); CN UK has always been the most commercial CN in Europe and the most similar to the US operation I think.. DC and Nick UK follow(ed) the same pattern
But yeah it was still very enjoyable, especially outside of the peak hours
However in its defense it is also the most innovative one, especially in promotions

Boomerang UK went down very quick, even in that schedule most HB classics are already thrown into overnights and it would get even worse as years pass by.

Yep, during the times Boomerang UK went down (in 2003) Boomerang Italy was a pearl of a channel (although at the same time CN Italy was more varied than CN UK too), but it may have been because it was just launched in 2003, along with Boomerang France.. however outside of the peak hours the channel was enjoyable, just as CN UK
Now I consider Boomerang Italy even worse than Boomerang UK :(

Remember when I said there was opposition to Cartoon Network in France and Belgium? Here's the article, it was even banned. :D

@Moleoman: CN ES airing Home Movies? If CN PT existed back in the day then it would be (at least) subtitled.
Also BM ES had a slightly different schedule, it had some anime that were among the first to be transmitted not only in Spain, but also in Portugal.

Source: Televarpið website, 2003. They no longer have CN anymore, and currently DR Ultra isn't airing any CN show.
Also it seems that CN Scandinavia no longer has half-hour slots, but still has some variety.
Also, notice the Faroese titles on the website when logically they get (got) the channel in Danish.

CN Scandinavia is "weird" when it comes to its schedule structure
Sometimes they still have 30 mins long slots (from 6am to 9pm), in other parts of the year they don't..

Great finds, as always

CN UK and CN France also aired Home Movies. In the UK, according to a promo that's no longer on YouTube, it aired at 7:30pm. They also aired Baby Blues, which was another show that aired on Adult Swim in the US. France aired Home Movies around 11pm or 11:30pm, I think, and it was part of the late-night block Dezaxe, which had the Adult Swim pool bumpers, but other than Home Movies and the Captain Linger shorts, they just aired shows you would see in the daytime, along with (then not so) old-school promos, like the Dexter and Velma one, the Courage promos featuring live-action dogs and others.

If you want an example of what truly all-ages animation is, I can't think of a better recent example than Bluey's "The Sign". I have more to say, but you'll be hearing from me again ;)

I loved your post in that Nick thread. I really dislike Nick's mentality of "It didnt outdo the Super Bowl, CANCEL IT NAO" and I am so glad you agree, even if you are more realistic and more wise.
It seems evidently that, despite being completed, ''Walpurgisnacht Rising'' hasn't been released yet. What do you think?
