An Oninaki demo releases on PC (and consoles) today, letting you try the latest JRPG from Tokyo RPG Studio. As you’ll see in our Oninaki gameplay, it’s more of an action RPG than I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphere, with demon swords, death cults and lots of button mashing making it different to active time battling. Thanks to Logitech G and the G432 7.1 Surround Sound gaming headset for sponsoring this video. Check out the tech behind the G432 over on the Logitech G site: http://bit.ly/2FkTkbi

This is PS4 footage, but Oninaki PC is a thing - you can try the Oninaki steam demo today. It gives you the first 90 minutes of the Oninaki story and lets you continue that save file into the main game. You can also try out the new Battle Mode, which gives you more access to the Oninaki daemons (I keep wanting to type Oninaki demons, but will respect the terminology). Daemons/demons act as your weapons, possessing the hero and giving you access to their skills. You’ll also see the Oninaki skill tree and find out how you can learn more about our heroes by investing in their development.

These are just demo impressions, not a full Oninaki review - we will have an Oninaki PC review closer to release, as we enjoyed the previous games from the studio and are keen to see how this one evolves. Elsewhere in the video we go into Oninaki’s length (you might be surprised at how long is Oninaki), discuss the story without revealing too many spoilers and look at how the Oninaki combat system differs from what the studio did before. A real-time action system is obviously a departure from JRPG norms, but it has plenty of stat twiddling potential. Why not see for yourself by downloading the free Oninaki demo today? The Oninaki release date is 22 August, so not long to wait for the proper game.

As I mentioned this is Oninaki PS4 (Oninaki Switch is also a thing), but we’ll try and get some PC footage on the channel before release. If you have any questions about the game, don’t hesitate to pop them in the comments below. And if you enjoyed this video, why not check out some of our other favourite JRPGS - we’ve got reviews of Octopath Traveller and Dragon Quest XI on the channel. Why not subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun for even more. Thanks for watching.
