People Magazine has published three new photos — the first photos ever taken from the set of Sony’s all-new, all-female Ghostbusters film. All three are from the first day of shooting, but that doesn’t always mean the first scenes written in the script. Judge for yourself what’s happening in these shots.
Here’s the official plot synopsis to help: Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.
Here are two members of the cast, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon. It’s up in the air which Ghostbuster archetype McCarthy is meant to fill in, but McKinnon’s got an obvious Egon vibe going on….unless this movie features a guest appearance from Harley Quinn.
Try to guess what McCarthy’s got there. It appears to be an old computer hard drive. Some think it might be a ghost trap, but for the movie’s sake I hope the ghost traps look better than that.
Here’s Kristin Wiig. This looks to take place during her “teaching job at Columbia” phase.
Wiig again…but just what is going on to her left?
The new Ghostbusters is currently being filmed in Boston (and yes, it still takes place in New York). Paul Feig is directing and it’s slated for a 2016 release.
