Finally Confirmed: Red Dead Redemption 2

red dead redemption 2

It’s been a full five years since Rockstar Games last revealed a new game. An agonizing amount of time for any studio, much less one as revered as this one. Many were hoping their next project would be a sequel to the last-gen classic Red Dead Redemption, and today (after a lot of teasing) Rockstar admitted it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will release worldwide in Fall 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems,” Rockstar’s brief statement says. “An epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”

Rockstar is emphasizing the game’s online multiplayer mode, which is no surprise given how fat they’ve grown off the monthly revenue from GTA Online. We suspect the fact that GTA V is still making money is the reason why they won’t build any new single-player expansions for that game — or announce GTA VI.

When will we know more? Very soon. The first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released in two days. Look for it October 20 at 8 AM Pacific, 11 AM Eastern.
