Where’s Final Fantasy on the Nintendo Switch? Right here…sort of. How soon will the system get Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition?
What would have been announced on yesterday’s postponed Nintendo Direct was spilled out by Square themselves hours later: they’re releasing the Pocket Edition of FFXV on Switch. Those who’ve never seen it before can scope out this trailer:
If you don’t know what you’re looking at, Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition is a “demastered version” of FFXV that tells the same story as its graphically cutting-edge cousin, but with softer visuals that lower-powered chips can support. Square has stated they would have a lot of trouble getting FFXV in its native form to run on Switch. But it can do this!
In Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD, fans and newcomers alike can follow the journey of crown prince Noctis and his brothers in arms, Prompto, Ignis and Gladiolus, with fully voiced key event scenes and faithfully recreated battles.
All of the treasured moments from Final Fantasy XV, like driving the Regalia across breathtaking landscapes, camping, chocobo riding and more, can be experienced in a whole new way with the game’s creatively reimagined art style and in HD resolution for the Nintendo Switch.
Of course HD resolution doesn’t matter much when everybody looks like a Funko Pop, but it’s the thought that counts. This is, technically, a portable Final Fantasy XV — it has everything from the game, it just looks different. Plus, unlike the mobile versions, it has actual controls, which counts for something.
Look for more information on Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition for Switch soon. An exact release date hasn’t been revealed, but Square says “soon.”The thread view count is
