Early Justice League Impressions Range From Good To Bad

It’s the question on everyone’s mind: will the first Justice League movie be worthy of the name? Can WB maintain the momentum gifted to them by last spring’s excellent Wonder Woman movie?

Early impressions are coming out now from people who were shown an early screening of the film, and their reactions differ. The following tweets are from people who attended a sneak preview.

Brandon Davis simply said, “I love Justice League.” Jenna Busch said “I saw #JusticeLeague! Here’s what I thought. There are ton of things I’d change but it comes down to this: I had a blast! I got to see the team together and I had fun watching it. Ezra Miller steals the movie and #WonderWoman was perfect!”

Josh L. Dickey had the opposite reaction: “Nothing could save JUSTICE LEAGUE from its loud, ugly, tacky self. Not Wonder Woman, not wide-eyed Ezra Miller, not Joss Whedon’s quippy teardown & rebuild….Oof, guys. It’s a rough ride.”

Peter Sciretta is in the middle: “Justice League is better than expected, but not a home run. The interaction between the team is a lot of fun. The film sends the DCEU in a hopeful direction in line with where the brand should be headed. Flash and Aquaman steal the show. Cyborg and villain are the weak links.”

Apparently what you get out of Justice League depends on what you go in desiring. Some people liked the Whedonesque one-liners and some didn’t, but nobody was a fan of the villain and one common complaint was of the stakes feeling too low to necessitate this many heroes at once.

In short, it doesn’t sound like Justice League will blow everyone away when it premieres on November 17. But the mixed reactions leave the odds open that not everyone will hate it. Stay optimistic, purchase your tickets and hope for a moderately pleasant time.
