Later this month, a special Comic-Con @Home will be happening, and not surprisingly, there are going to be some big panels and events tied to this Con. One of the ones that’ll please many anime fans though is that of the Dragon Ball panel. The reason for this excitement is that there is going to be a new movie in the franchise coming in 2022 and fans are desperate to hear more about it and this panel aims to deliver those wishes to fans.
Those in attendance will include Masako Nozawa (the voice of Goku), Akio Iyoku (the head of Shueisha’s Dragon Ball team), Toei Animation producer behind the upcoming movie, Norihiro Hayashida, and a special performance from Hironobu Kageyama. Plus:
“There will be tons of exciting news and don’t miss a special musical performance by Hironobu Kageyama!”
Obviously, this is a big deal for fans of the franchise as they’ve honestly been starved for content outside of the manga and the Heroes story which is intriguing but not canon at all (for various reasons).
The other reason this is huge is that fans are hoping this movie will be the beginning of a new series for the franchise as a whole. It’s been years since Dragon Ball Super ended in Japan and was translated over for the West. Then, while the Broly movie was a great “epilogue” of sorts for the Super line, it just gave fans a hankering for more. Especially given that there is a lot of storylines going on in the manga that could very easily be translated over into animation. Especially since by the time the animation of one arc is done there will be more story to translate.
But until the panel, it’s all going to be guesswork in terms of what is going to be the movie and what it’ll push going forward.
