Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is coming out on May 6th, and it’s set to turn the entire Marvel Multiverse on its head in the biggest of ways…potentially of course. The film has been delayed multiple times due to the global pandemic and reshoots but now we’re just weeks away from the premiere! Of course, the biggest question that Marvel fans have about this film is not that of the surprises (as those will be unveiled soon enough), but rather…how well will it do at the box office?
This is important because the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe film (no, Morbius is not a part of the MCU no matter how much it implied it was) was Spider-Man No Way Home, and that had a MASSIVE opening weekend and overall haul. So, would Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness be able to match? Well, mostly.
According to Box Office Pro, the projections right now is that it could do anywhere from 170-205 million domestically in its first weekend. That would be a huge take. It would put it behind Spider-Man, but it’d put it ahead of The Batman which had a big haul in its opening weekend in March with no competition. Doctor Strange will be in a similar position and thus could do very well.
According to Fandango, its pre-sales are the best of 2022 (again, beating The Batman), and the hype due to trailers and the promise of Multiversal characters (and then some) have intrigued many.
It’s also important to note that the original Doctor Strange movie only had an $80 million dollar box office opening domestically, so this is going to be a large jump from that even on the lower side of things.
All in all, the movie is set to impress and amaze, and all we have to do is wait for it to arrive.
