At New York Comic-Con last month, Marvel announced their next big comic book “Crossever Event” storyline, titled “One World Under Doom”. Following the events of last summer’s “Blood Hunt” storyline (which ended with Doctor Doom claiming the mantle of “Sorcerer Supreme” from Dr. Strange), Doctor Doom is set to return as THE prominent Marvel Universe villain in a storyline that will have major ramifications across the Marvel Universe. The main mini-series will be written by current “Fantastic Four” Writer Ryan North, with artwork by R.B. Silva. Now Marvel has released the solicitation for February’s “One World Under Doom” Issue #1, along with covers and preview art.
The solicitation reads as follows:
“ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #1 (OF 9)
Written by RYAN NORTH Art by R.B. SILVA Colors by DAVID CURIEL
Covers by BEN HARVEY, ROSE BESCH, NICK BRADSHAW, JOHN TYLER CHRISTOPHER, MIKE MIGNOLA, ROD REIS, R.B. SILVA, WILL SLINEY
ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM! Six months ago, Doctor Victor Von Doom became Sorcerer Supreme – then disappeared behind Latveria’s closed borders. For most, there’s enough going on in the world that Doom’s absence is not a priority, and some time without him feels like a blessing. Only a few recognize it for what it truly was… the calm before the storm. It is a storm that has now arrived. The world has woken up to a new reality: Doctor Doom, Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, has magically taken over every broadcast medium on the planet and declared himself Emperor of the World – the ruler of a new United Latveria! And shockingly, impossibly, all of Earth’s leaders seem to be going along with this. Luckily, whether it’s mind control or Doombots, whatever’s affecting them hasn’t affected Earth’s heroes – and so they quickly form a strike team to stop Doom’s machinations. But will they succeed? And what happens when some begin to welcome their new Emperor with open arms, clamoring for One World Under Doom? On Sale 2/12″

The storyline announcement also follows the reveal last Summer (at San Diego Comic Con) that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Universe to play Doctor Doom in the next 2 Avengers films. Is it possible this comic storyline is to set up (or align with) plot points from the upcoming films? Maybe, but Marvel has long teased that the inclusion of Doctor Doom was more for them to do a version of the 2015 “Secret Wars” comic storyline (arguably the most iconic Marvel storyline of the last decade).
Still, “One World Under Doom” promises to set up big reveals and to bring a renewed focus on Doctor Doom’s place in the Marvel Universe. Stay tuned for further news to come (on both the Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe)!
