Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has concluded its first season on Japanese broadcast on September 28, 2019. It is set to premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami starting October 12, 2019.

If you’re looking for an action packed anime series with a darker setting, then make sure to check out this anime. It has an awesome soundtrack that perfectly captures the mood of every scene. Watch this trailer from Aniplex for a short preview:

Warning: Minor Spoilers Ahead

I introduced Demon Slayer as an anime with a darker setting because it involves the death and injury of family members. It will influence every action of the protagonist, Tanjirou, throughout the entire season.

His family members were killed and eaten by demons that devour human blood to sustain their existence. However, his sister Nezuko managed to survive the demon attack, albeit as a demon herself. Most demons are humans that were transformed due to the direct exposure of demon blood. They have sentient life similar to vampires, although their hunger for human flesh can turn them into mindless creatures. It is easy for them to hide their existence from the general human population, which can make them very difficult to track and hunt. Later on, we find out demons are hard to kill as well. Usually, a weapon made from a special type of mineral is needed to land a killing blow.

Tanjirou begins his journey for a cure for Nezuko and attempts to find the demon responsible for killing his family members along the way. With the help of a former demon slayer, Tanjirou starts his training and eventually qualifies to take the demon slayer examination. In order to be a demon slayer recognized by the organization, all candidates are required to survive on a mountain filled with demons for seven days.

After passing the examination, Tanjirou will start to get assigned tasks by the demon hunter corps where he will meet fated enemies and allies that will help him overcome many challenges.

In my opinion, Demon Slayer is one of the best anime series released in 2019. It’s not a surprise Adult Swim’s Toonami decided to pick it up quickly. The anime has an emotionally driven story-line, interesting characters and setting. Viewers will stay entertained until the end since there are no filler episodes. The production of the show is excellent with animation work from Ufotable (Fate/Stay Night) and complementary soundtrack.

A Demon Slayer movie of the next story arc was announced after the credits of the final episode. Unfortunately, a release date wasn’t mentioned so we’ll have to wait for more details.
