Freedom Fighters: The Ray

Freedom Fighters The RayThe CW has announced that a new DC animated series, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, will launch in 2017 on CW Seed. Like the animated Vixen series, Freedom Fighters: The Ray is expected to be linked to the Arrow/Flash live-action TV universe, with a voice to be cast and an eye towards an eventual live-action debut on one of the DC-related TV series on the CW. The provided description of the series is as follows:

Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

The description means that the character will be based on the Ray’s modern incarnation, created by Jack C. Harris and Joe Quesada in 1992 and inspired by the Golden Age superhero of the same name. The CW also confirmed the lead character will be represented as gay.
