There was buzz about Science SARU’s Dan Da Dan before it even released, and its popularity has only grown with each weekly episode. They only promised twelve, but be honest….did any of you really believe them? Of course there will be a Season 2.
The announcement went out immediately after the release of the Season 1 finale, and there won’t be much of a hiatus — it looks like Season 2 went into production well before Season 1 ended. Dan Da Dan will return in July of 2025. This is a good thing as the episode that debuted last Thursday left things off smack in the middle of the “Cursed House” arc, with no resolution.
They’ve given us a couple of hints though…one in the form of a poster, depicting Momo and Okarun leaping into action (Okarun in powered up form, Momo carrying Turbo Granny) while an apparently possesses Jiji towers over them:
The second tidbit is this announcement trailer, which reveals some animation from Season 2 has been completed already:
The premise of Dan Da Dan revolves around two high school students: Okarun, a timid nerd obsessed with aliens, and Momo, who comes from a family of spirit mediums that have a history with yokai. Okarun doesn’t believe yokai exist and Momo laughs off the idea of aliens — until each finds evidence of the other and they’re forced together to battle a dual attack on Japan’s countryside.
It doesn’t take long for Momo and Okarun to take a “shine” to each other, though they’re young and awkward at communicating it. In the back half of Season One “rivals” are introduced to complicate things further: Aira, who believes Okarun is her soulmate, and Jiji, Momo’s goofy childhood friend.
What did Okarun and Jiji find in the walls of the Cursed House? What is that ominous specter with the weird eyes haunting Jiji? And will Momo be able to defeat those guys…oh of course she will, that one was obvious. But for the answers to the bigger questions you’ll have to wait for July….or just start reading the manga. Dan Da Dan returns this summer on Netflix, Crunchyroll and Hulu.
