The Creature Commandos are pretty surprising choices for an animated series, let alone the first official entry in the new, rebooted DC Universe multimedia franchise. DC has released the first teaser for James Gunn’s upcoming 7 episodes long animated series, scheduled to debut on Max this December. The teaser is included below in the article. As per the log-line offered, “Creature Commandos tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails … they’re your last, worst option.” The show features the voice talents of Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
Davis is reprising her role from Gunn’s previous The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker projects (and even before those, the 2016 Suicide Squad movie as well), and a full series with the character is also in the works. Agee and Sean Gunn are likewise role reprisals, while Grillo is set to return as Flag Sr. in the upcoming second season of Peacemaker. It all helps in making the shows and movies seem more inter-connected though at the same time, things might also get a bit confusing for the viewers. Obviously, the quality of writing and entertainment should be more important than all of this, and it remains to be seen just how good things will get once the first official live-action movie of this new shared universe, Superman, is released next year.
The show is written and executive produced by James Gunn, based on DC characters and produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Additional executive producers include Peter Safran, Dean Lorey and Sam Register; Rick Morales serves as a supervising producer.
Creature Commandos does not have an exact premiere date at the moment but is scheduled to debut on Max this December.
