When it comes to anime, there tends to be a few things that people just accept. The first is the anime is a much deeper form of storytelling than regular animation, and that’s often very true, even for more lighthearted anime like Pokemon. Second, anime can get VERY weird (especially the anime’s that are very NSFW). And third, while anime is beautiful in animated form, when it comes to the live-action adaptations that have been made over the last several years…not so much. But perhaps that will change with the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop that Netflix is making right now.
Cowboy Bebop is of course one of the most beloved animes of all time. Grounded by the incredible voice of Steve Blum it’s a tale of many things, including the main character trying to get by in life despite being weighed down by the actions of his past. The anime only went one season but it was that rare anime that didn’t need to do more than that.
Fast forward to now and Danielle Pineda (who will play Faye Valentine in the adaptation) noted on Twitter that the filming for the first season of the Netflix live-action version has wrapped.

This is interesting news on various levels. If you recall, filming was set to happen quite some time ago but the actor behind Spike Spiegel got injured on set and thus things got delayed MANY months. This also means that we might be closer to a trailer than we thought.
It’s also curious to hear her say that “season one’ of the show has stopped filming. Meaning that perhaps they’re going to extend the story so that it fits in more than just one season. Only time will tell, Space Cowboy.
I still haven’t seen or heard anything about Edward being cast in the live-action adaptation. Have they left her out? Might she debut in a second season?
Okay, Netflix did post the following description:
Based on the worldwide phenomenon from Sunrise Inc., Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine and Radical Ed: a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world…for the right price.
So, Edward does seem to be in the show. We just haven’t seen anything else about her.
