The Legend of Zelda has been a mainstay of Nintendo systems ever since its very first game on the company’s very first console. Fast forward to the Nintendo Switch era and there have been two major Zelda games that have not just arrived, but have been best-sellers. Breath of the Wild is one of the top-selling games on the system while the remaster of Link’s Awakening sold many millions within its launch. Now though, fans think another classic Zelda game is on the way, The Ocarina of Time.
This comes from rumors made by a trademark finding (as noted by ComicBook.Com) where Nintendo has put a new trademark on the Ocarina of Time title. But what that exactly means isn’t so clear. Because it could mean a wide variety of things, including brand new merchandise centered around the game, which has happened many times in the past. But just as many fans are “Certain” that this could mean a port of the title to Switch.
Now obviously, there is some merit to their thoughts as Link’s Awakening was upgraded visually and brought to the Switch after being 20+ years old since its origin on the Game Boy. And, since this is one of the most popular Legend of Zelda games ever, and it would likely sell well on one of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles ever, it does seem a good fit.
Not to mention, next year is the 35th anniversary of the franchise, so having it release there in correlation of that (which is apparently what Nintendo plans to do with Mario this year with the same numbered anniversary) would be a good marketing strategy.
Add to that, we don’t know the progress of Breath of the Wild 2, so this could serve as a buffer of sorts as fans wait for that to release.
Either way though, this is a rumor, and should be taken as such.
