Corus Kids has announced their January 2010 programming highlights, including the premiere of the new animated series Zeke’s Pad on YTV and new premieres of The Backyardigans and Olivia on Treehouse.

Nickelodeon kicks off the new year with two new live-action series

Action-filled reality returns to YTV with Escape from Scorpion Island, Season 2

(December 7, 2009 – Toronto, Canada) Corus Entertainment, Canada’s largest kids’ broadcaster, is ringing in the new year with programming schedules chock full of new series and specials, including Season 2 of Escape from Scorpion Island and the new animated series Zeke’s Pad on YTV; Nickelodeon‘s exclusive Canadian premieres of The Troop and The Fresh Beat Band as well as three Treehouse premiere specials starring preschoolers’ favourite characters.

YTV JANUARY 2010 HIGHLIGHTS

ESCAPE FROM SCORPION ISLAND, SEASON 2 – SEASON PREMIERE
This high-energy reality adventure series is back with Season 2. Escape from Scorpion Island makes a heart pounding return as 16 contestants from the U.K. and Australia are packaged in crates and dropped off via helicopter, landing on an uninviting island. For 15 weeks, viewers can follow each contestant as they battle it out in complex challenges and harsh conditions. Who will be strong enough to escape from Scorpion Island? Viewers won’t want to miss the 16 suspense-filled episodes every Monday beginning Monday, December 28 at 7 p.m.

ZEKE’S PAD – SERIES PREMIERE
Zeke Palmer is not your ordinary 14 year-old. A talented artist, Zeke lives with his outrageously weird and wacky family and spends most of his time drawing on his sketch pad – a pad that makes his creations come to life! Even his most extreme drawings somehow come into fruition on his super powered pad. But, with every action comes a reaction and things don’t always go as planned for Zeke. Produced in Canada by Bardel Entertainment, this 26-episode half-hour animated series premieres on YTV Saturday, January 9 at 7 p.m.

NEW YEARS DAY ON YTV
YTV says goodbye 2009 and hello 2010 with back-to-back episodes of YTV’s top 20 shows including iCarly, SpongeBob SquarePants and How to be Indie on Friday, January 1 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The fun won’t stop there as the network presents a Big Fun Friday movie that the entire family will enjoy; the classic kid-adventure, Adventures in Babysitting starring Elisabeth Shue at 7 p.m., followed by a special sneak peek of 10 Things I Hate About You on Friday, January 1 at 9 p.m., a new series scheduled to launch on YTV spring 2010.

YTV MOVIE PREMIERES

SNOW DAY – PREMIERE
When a blizzard hits a town in upstate New York covering the ground in a blanket of snow and preventing school buses from running, it can only mean one thing – a snow day! Hal Brandston is using his day off to win Claire’s (Emmanuelle Chriqui) heart. Starring Chevy Chase as Hal’s dad and the town’s meteorologist, Snow Daypremieres on Sunday, January 24 at 6 p.m. in ZAPX.

NICKELODEON JANUARY 2010 HIGHLIGHTS

From December 15 to January 18 Nickelodeon will be available as a free preview to over eight million households across Canada.

THE TROOP – SERIES PREMIERE
This new live-action Nickelodeon series follows three high-schoolers who split their time between homework and defending humanity. Jake (Nick Purcell) is a regular teenager who has unknowingly passed an aptitude test to become part of the Troop – a century old secret organization that protects society from the supernatural. In each half-hour episode, Jake joins two other students, the strong and pretty Hayley (Gage Golightly) and socially awkward Felix (David Del Rio) to tackle the paranormal antics around town. Viewers can catch the exclusive Canadian debut of The Troop when Nickelodeon airs two back-to-back episodes on Saturday, January 2 at 8 p.m.

THE FRESH BEAT BAND – SERIES PREMIERE Marina, Kiki, Twist, and Shout are the Fresh Beats – four best friends who go to music school together and love to sing and dance. With a preschool appropriate music curriculum, this series covers self expression through music, music appreciation and comprehension of music terminology and concepts. Introducing all genres of music from classical, jazz and reggae, the Fresh Beats can take any situation and lead it to a full-blown song and dance performance. From the moment they wake up, everything that the Fresh Beats do is expressed through music. This live-action series set to original pop songs with preschool-friendly lyrics airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:30 p.m. beginning Monday, January 4.

NICK CLASSIC SUNDAY
Chock full of award-winning properties, the Nickelodeon schedule also offers viewers timeless Nick favourites. For 24 hours straight on Sunday, January 10, from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. kids won’t want to miss Nick Classic Sunday, with popular Nick series airing back-to-back such as The Angry Beavers, Rugrats, CatDog and Ren & Stimpy.

TREEHOUSE JANUARY 2010 HIGHLIGHTS

NEW YEARS IN THE TREEHOUSE
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, January 1, Treehouse delivers a schedule filled with popular programming including Care Bears: Big Wish Movie and If the World Were a Village. Topping the day off, the network will also present three premiere specials starring preschoolers’ favourite characters.

THE BACKYARDIGANS: ROBOT RAMPAGE – PREMIERE
Austin is the best robot repairman in Mega City, a futuristic town where robots run everything. One day, all of the robots begin to breakdown. Austin, Uniqua, Tyrone, Tasha and the townspeople must find out who caused the robots to rampage. Was it the evil genius Professor Bug? This 60-minute special premieres on Friday, January 1 at 5:30 p.m.

MADELINE: LOST IN PARIS – PREMIERE
Madeline is surprised when her long lost uncle from Vienna pays her a visit. She’s wonderfully happy with her new dream family until she realizes she is part of an ugly scheme. To foil the wicked plan that will take her away from the only family she has ever known, Madeline must summon all of her courage and cleverness. This 90-minute special premieres on Friday, January 1 at 3 p.m.

OLIVIA AND THE TREASURE HUNT – PREMIERE
In this half-hour special, Olivia and her family partake in the town’s annual treasure hunt. Team Olivia searches the town using bicycles, roller skates and scooters to complete fun tasks in exchange for clues on where the treasure is hidden. Olivia and the Treasure Hunt premieres on Friday, January 1 at5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
