There have been many things that 2020 has taken from people, and one of the most heartbreaking things of all was that we lost Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was a beloved actor who did legendary portrayals of men like Jackie Robinson, James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, and of course, T’Challa from the Black Panther universe. He died of cancer without telling anyone outside of his family that he had it, showing just how much of a hero he really was. But of course, with him gone…many wonder about what happens next for his MCU roles.

We know now that Black Panther 2 is coming and that Chadwick Boseman won’t be replaced, nor will he be “digitally re-created”. Instead, they’re going to use the movie to further explore the Black Panther world and its characters. However, that doesn’t mean Chadwick is gone in full just yet. Because there is the animated series What If…? that is coming next year.

As we would see in the debut trailer, Boseman was able to voice T’Challa one more time, with his role going from King of Wakanda to becoming the outlaw Star-Lord after Yondu picks him up while exploring his homeland.

However, according to Kevin Fiege during an interview with Emmy Magazine, we now now that this won’t be a one-off episode. According to Fiege, Chadwick recorded “Numerous episodes”. So it might be that we get to see much more of his What If… story than previously believed.

Other What If…? stories that have been confirmed is Peggy Carter becoming Captain Britain, Bucky Barnes fighting a zombie version of Captain America, Doctor Strange going up against a dark version of himself, and so much more.

This is but one new addition to a Marvel slate on Disney+ and beyond that is growing at a rapid pace. It’ll be interesting to see where it all goes from here.
