Another day, another new superhero movie trailer. The universe that was somewhat rebooted in X-Men: First Class expands in X-Men: Apocalypse. The titular supervillain, resurrected from a distant past, believes himself to be a god and world domination is his goal. Only a garishly blue, cat-eyed Jennifer Lawrence and her crew of inhumans mutants can stop him!
We get to see a lot of the new actors and actresses for much of the X-Men here: the new Storm, the new Cyclops, the new Jean, everything but a new Jubilee (she must have been told to watch the jet like usual). Lots and lots of structures blow up, of course, but that kind of thing has been seen so many times in so many trailers that it’s incredibly old-hat. This movie will prove itself on the strength of its story, not its CG…unfortunately, the story also feels generic from the vibe of this trailer. Let’s hope it’s more than just “save the day.”
