Disney/Pixar’s Cars 3 came in first place at the box office in its premiere weekend with an estimated $53.5 million in ticket sales, knocking Warner Bros’ Wonder Woman to the number 2 spot after two consecutive weeks as the top grossing film domestically. The opening is one of the smaller ones in Pixar’s history, with only A Good Dinosaur opening lower in its debut weekend (and both Toy Story and A Bug’s Life earning less before adjusting for inflation). Wonder Woman is still showing strength at the box office, with a $40.7 million (estimated) in ticket sales to bring its cumulative domestic total to just under $275 million. International ticket sales bring the Amazon’s total to $571.8 million worldwide.
