Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Is Free For One Week

black ops 4 blackout

Thinking of playing a little Battle Royale, Call of Duty style? For the next seven days, you won’t have to pay. Two days ago we said it would happen, and behold, it has transpired: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode can be downloaded and experienced free of charge.

Black Ops 4 Blackout is Activision and developer Treyarch’s expected response to the Battle Royale craze, but it’s not an inferior knockoff. A diverse variety of battle maps are included and players can compete solo, in duos or quads. Critics praised the new mode for holding its own against competitors like Fortnite and PUBG. Of course PUBG is a lot cheaper than Black Ops 4, and Fortnite is free. So now this is free too….well, temporarily.

“The community response to Blackout has been incredible, and we love watching how players have really made the mode their own, evolving game play to a new level,” says Dan Bunting, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch. “We can’t wait to welcome new players to experience the unique Black Ops style of battle royale in Blackout.”

“It’s amazing to see the amount of creativity and fun that our players have from the moment they start playing,” adds Mark Gordon, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch. “Particularly as game developers, we’ve always been fascinated watching clips and streams of how fans play, and we can’t wait to see even more people jump into the action.”

So what happens once the week is over? Your progress and in-game items will be saved to your account, and accessible instantly should you choose to purchase the full game. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout is freely downloadable from now until January 24 at 6 PM GMT, on Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.
