Do you recall last January when Activision made Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Battle Royale mode Blackout free for one week? It just happened again, and this time, the deal is sticking around four times as long.
What are these sudden acts of generosity about? Well, considering its free and close-to-free competition, Blackout is the most expensive house on the Battle Royale block. This is the second time Blackout has been temporarily free and we’d be surprised if it’s the last.
But Blackout also has a new map — Alcatraz — and they want everyone to know. In the second trailer below, Treyarch studio design director David Vonderhaar and producer Miles Leslie brief you on what you need to know to survive the prison. Alcatraz is a PS4 exclusive at the moment, but will appear on XBox One and PC soon.
“The community response to Blackout has been incredible, and we love watching how players have really made the mode their own, evolving game play to a new level,” says Dan Bunting, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch. “We can’t wait to welcome new players to experience the unique Black Ops style of battle royale in Blackout.”
“It’s amazing to see the amount of creativity and fun that our players have from the moment they start playing,” adds Mark Gordon, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch. “Particularly as game developers, we’ve always been fascinated watching clips and streams of how fans play, and we can’t wait to see even more people jump into the action.”
Your progress and in-game items will be saved to your account, and accessible instantly should you choose to purchase the full game. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout is freely downloadable from now until April 30 on Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.
