What’s going on with Billy Mitchell? Are his records being taken down?
Recently, Twin Galaxies, the committee that looks over and authenticates video game world records, recently concluded that famed video gamer Billy Mitchell cheated in setting world records for Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. and even Pac-Man. As such, his records were wiped from their leaderboards, and he’s been banned from participating in future attempts. But now, the Guinness Book of World Records has added to that by also stripping him of the records in their book:
“Twin Galaxies is Guinness World Records’ trusted adviser on video game high scores and as such we rely on it to monitor high score gaming records and handle any and all disputes that occur within its community,” Guinness said in a statement sent to IGN. “The Guinness World Records titles relating to Mr. Mitchell’s highest scores on Donkey Kong have all been disqualified due to Twin Galaxies being our source of verification for these achievements.”
This is another big blow to the once well-regarded, though hated, gamer who rose to the public eye via the documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.
Because of these removals, Guinness is going to redo its records in regards to the now removed high scores and put in the true record holders. The thread view count is 219
