“Beware the Batman”, “Attack on Titan” to Air on Toonami in May

In a pair of recent announcements, two action cartoons were confirmed for Adult Swim’s weekly Toonami block on Saturday nights: the anime series Attack on Titan and Beware the Batman. Attack on Titan, based on Hajime Isayama’s best-selling manga, is an apocalyptic dark fantasy chronicling humanity’s desperate struggle for survival against a horde of man-eating giants that have overrun the world and now threaten the last bastions of human civilization. FUNimation Entertainment’s English dub starring Bryce Papenbrook (Eren), Trina Nishimura (Mikasa), and Josh Grelle (Armin) will join the Toonami lineup on May 3rd at 11:30 PM.

Toonami will begin broadcasting Beware the Batman starting the evening of May 10th at 3 AM, marking its first return to television after an extended hiatus that began in October 2013 when Cartoon Network mysteriously suspended the series’ broadcast after premiering the 11th episode of its 26-episode season. The CG-animated series portrays Batman (Anthony Ruivivar) in the earlier days of his career as he takes on the criminals of Gotham City alongside his two allies, the swordswoman Katana (Sumalee Montano) and ex-secret agent and butler Alfred (JB Blanc). The first half of the series, including the unaired episodes “Attraction” and “Fall”, were recently released through Warner Archive on Blu-ray and DVD in February 2014.

As of May 10th, the Toonami schedule will be as follows:

  • 11:30pm – Attack on Titan
  • 12am – Bleach
  • 12:30am – Space Dandy
