Beavis And Butt-Head Are Coming Back Again

Comedy Central has raided the MTV vault and stolen another animated property from their past. Last month it was Daria; this time it’s Beavis And Butt-Head. Yep, they’re back, they’re out there, and now you know the real reason why toilet paper has been so hard to find.

Mike Judge is returning to personally guide two “reimagined” seasons of the series, as well as provide the voices of the pair. The sliding timeline has previously cast B&B as members of Generation X and then as Millennials. Now they’ll be Zoomers, proving stupidity is not exclusive to any generation.

“We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on Adult Animation at Comedy Central,” says Chris McCarthy, President of Entertainment and Youth Brands for ViacomCBS. “Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”

Mike Judge adds, “It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again.”

This announcement comes just two weeks after Comedy Central announced they had picked up Jodie, the Daria spinoff that’s been in development since 2018, previously for MTV. It signals that Paramount might consider MTV a lost cause at this point….and if they do, then they’re smarter than I gave them credit for.

Beavis and Butt-Head were previously revived in 2011 for a surprise eighth season of eleven episodes. In the absence of music videos, the duo riffed on MTV’s declining programming offerings instead, making hash of reality shows like Teen Mom and 16 And Pregnant. It was a brilliant season, and I waited for news of a renewal, but there was only silence.

This time, however, we’re guaranteed to get more than one season out of those chuckling morons before they run off again. Heh heh, cool.
