The Bad Guys entered the Dreamworks menagerie in 2022. Based on the children’s books by Aaron Blabey, the movie centered around a gang of animal hooligans notorious for their unstoppable crime spree across a nameless metropolis– until the day they were finally caught.
In the first movie, safecracker Mr. Snake, muscle man Mr. Piranha, master of disguise Mr. Shark, master hacker Miss Tarantula and leader Mr. Wolf (THE Big Bad Wolf, in fact) were given a deal by the police to work for them in exchange for lighter sentences. They pretend to agree, fully intending to resume their outlaw lifestyles once the heat is off. But as they fight crime, Mr. Wolf starts wondering if he chose the wrong career path. The others think he’s nuts at first, but individually come around. As the credits roll, The Bad Guys have been reformed as good guys — which, of course, causes an issue for sequels.
In the time since the original film came out, two Bad Guys holiday specials have been released on Netflix. Both of them chose the path of prequel stories, allowing the characters to still be bad. But it’s been leading to this, The Bad Guys 2: an actual sequel and continuation of the story. What happens at that point? Well, our team finds out what Gru did before them: you can never really escape your past.
While trying and failing to properly enter the workforce, Wolf, Snake, Piranha, Tarantula and Shark are abducted by three of their biggest fans: a leopard, boar and raven who call themselves the Bad Girls. They want the team’s help in pulling off the ultimate heist — and they won’t take no for an answer!
The Netflix specials were too cheap to hire the movie’s Hollywood cast, but this time, everyone’s back for The Bad Guys 2: Sam Rockwell as Mr. Wolf, Mark Maron as Mr. Snake, Anthony Ramos as Mr. Piranha, Craig Robinson as Mr. Shark, and Awkwafina as Miss Tarantula. They’ll be joined by Danielle Brooks as Kitty Kat, Maria Bakalova as Pigtail and Natasha Lyonne as Doom.
The Bad Guys 2 will land in theaters August 1, 2025. Here’s our first taste…
