Assassin’s Creed Is Getting A Movie, And The First Trailer’s Out

Just like the Spanish Inquisition, no one expects an Assassin’s Creed movie — until it flips down from out of nowhere and sneaks up from behind you. The first trailer for the feature film adaptation of Ubisoft’s game franchise made its debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, and we’ve got it here too:

Michael Fassbender stars as Callum Lynch, as well as the 15th Century ancestor Lynch is descended from. Similar to the framing device used in the games, Lynch is diving into his past self to uncover ancient secrets and kick some Templar kiester while doing so.

Making a successful video-game-to-movie transition is far from easy, as countless botched attempts have proven. All the flips, stunts and parkour in this trailer look great, but we’re not playing this one, so the true test will come when we can see the full story.

That is, if anyone notices it’s there — it comes out one week after Star Wars: Rogue One. Assassin’s Creed: The Movie will be released December 21, 2016.

  1. "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"  However, this movie has not come out of nowhere if you've been paying any kind of attention.  If it has caught you by surprise, that's your own fault.  What I'm not sure about is the device of switching between the Italian Renaissance and the Modern Era.
