Game Freak and Nintendo have always stuck to the tradition of making legendary Pokemon only available through special events for a limited time (unless a hack or a glitch uncovers them). The franchise’s 20-year history leaves a lot of Legendary Pokemon to give away, and they still haven’t finished handing them all out in the current generation. Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres are next in line.
Nintendo announced today that they’ll be handing out download codes for the three Spanish-named birds in May. Unlike the other giveaways, however, this one has different circumstances. Recipients of the download codes MUST be on the mailing list for The Pokemon Company’s Trainer Club Newsletter. If you aren’t, it’s not too late. Anyone who gets on the E-mail list between now and April 22 will get giant elemental birds to play with the following month. The offer is good for Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
“Wait, stop for a minute,” you might say, “aren’t these guys traditionally caught, not downloaded?” Yes, and that’s still the case in the current generation, but these Legendaries are different.
