Nintendo and Game Freak pulled a shocker this morning…are we getting the next duo of Pokemon titles sooner than we thought?
Pokemon Sword and Shield are the names, and they’re coming to Nintendo Switch this fall. To everyone who’s dreamed of a mainline Pokemon game they can actually play on their living room TV (without a Super Game Boy or something)….this is the announcement you’ve been waiting for.
Those who are used to the Pokemon universe being represented by simplistic graphics will be in for a shock. These highly detailed environments make the worlds of Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee look like Tinkertoys. It’s the Galar region, a new area full of aged brick buildings, snowy hilltops, and lots of steam. Will there be punks?
Your three starter types are separated by the elements as usual, but this time they all look very similar, with giant round heads. Grookey is the Grass type, and a curious monkey. Scorbunny is the Fire type, hopping about with a permanent bandage across his nose. Finally you have Sobble, the Water type, described as “a bit timid….shooting out attacks as it hides itself in the water.”
That’s all we know at the moment, but not all there is. As the video wound down, Game Freak promised more revelations about these upcoming titles were on the way in the coming months.
You can check out the seven-minute “Pokemon Direct” below. Pokemon Sword and Shield will be out for Nintendo Switch in time for the 2019 holiday season.
