Nintendo’s European website recently added the Zelda: Breath of the Wild figures to their amiibo gallery, and included a release date: March 4, 2017. Nintendo has never put out amiibo figures for a game ahead of when the game itself comes out. And since there’s supposed to be a simultaneous release for the Wii U and NX version of Breath of the Wild, and we still haven’t heard a retraction for their earlier statement that their still-mysterious NX device is due in March……is March 4 the street date of the NX?
With just six months to go, the complete silence that persists from Nintendo about anything NX related is lunacy. The Tokyo Game Show is taking place in Japan this week, and it would have been the perfect time to unveil the NX to the press, but Nintendo completely skipped the event — and there won’t be another like it for the rest of the year. I would say this is a sign a delay announcement is imminent, but then this amiibo thing happened.
Many news outlets have picked up on the discovery and have contacted Nintendo for any public statement on the matter. So far, they’ve been greeted with the same old silence. We’ll let you know if that changes. In the meantime, watch for lots of 3DS ports of Wii U games this fall and into the winter.
